The Week at Wenty

We are in the strange time of year in between all the Xmas and New Year Holidays and the ramp up to Australia Day.

It’s time of year where the kid’s aren’t back at school, so the traffic is bearable, the boss is back at work and is unbearable, there’s a lack of talk back on most of the radio stations, just music , very bearable, alarm clocks are being set again, unbearable and on the golf course, handicaps are dropping, what a double edged sword that is. Then there is all the extra time with the kids and Grad kids and even Great Grand kids, priceless.

The end of the month sees our big Australia Day weekend. On Saturday 26th, we will stage the year’s first medal round including the completion of the first new Gold Medal Trophy Round for 2019, as well as the playoff for 2018 weekend Gold medals. There is also a beer tasting, raffles and live music. It will be a great day so stay after your round or come back for a night out. On Australia day, we will have a comp on as well. Should be a great weekend.

Next week Dave Paddo is running his kids Holiday Golf school and we will be including our grand kids, Tyler and Sienna in this one. Ah, the big green babysitter, gotta love it. Sorry ‘bout that Dave and it’s probably the wrong week to give up sniffing glue. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger baby.

January and February will all be about looking for sponsors. Thanks to Dave Mellor of d’Vine Cellars and Wentworth falls Animal Hospital for getting on board already. Your support is invaluable and greatly appreciated.

We will be looking for Hole Sponsors, Golf Event Sponsors, Raffle Sponsors so if anyone knows someone or wants to kick in themselves, drop me a line on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and I will follow up.

This Thursday is our first Mid-Week Medal day and the first qualifier for the 2019 Gold Medal Trophy.  Thursday’s medals will run differently this year with A Grade (division1) covering golfers between zero and 17 handicap. It’s all about evening out the field and increasing the competition for the medal on the day.

S0…….. to the week in golf:

The week’s golf concluded with the second round of our Metro Mixed Pennants on Sunday. Kareela Golf Course is a tight little number. I’ve never met an easy Golf Course and I still haven’t. It was up to our youngest team in Mary and Laurance Petkevitch and our most experienced team in Ken and Lea Schaefer to lead the way for the rest of us. Ken and Lee fought back from 4 down to end up Square and Laurance and Mary had a great win 3 &2. We came runners up on the day 41/2 to 1/1/2 but had a great day. As a team, we left our best performance for lunchtime where we cleaned up big time. Next week is at home vs Rosnay.

It was great to see Bruce Crossing back at Wenty again on Saturday and he won the day with 39 points, just a point in front of our man who has made coming runner up an art form, Steve Pole.  Steve did team up with Graem Bush to be the first team to qualify in the 2019 Teams Trophy after scoring 64 points in the aggregate, so will be up for a shout in the coming weeks.

“This is what it sounds like, when Dove’s cry”. This particular 80’s song had special significance on Thursday. The always lovely Linda Loftus put her tee shot on the 9th to 38cm, well inside the 80cm required to take the jackpot, now over $500. A dollar well spent methinks. Well, you can ask Linda, she’ll tell you the story. Let’s just say that the Jackpot is still rising. The day itself belonged to Joe Dimauro’s 40 points in the men with Magda Cawthorne continuing her great form, winning the women’s event. The team’s event was won by the man with the most exposed legs in the southern hemisphere (if you don’t count the Chippendales), Jimmy Pittendrigh and partner David Payens.

One of our most welcome visitors, Steve York had a great win on Tuesday and was only challenged by our very own Tiger Tass James.

 Wentworth Falls Country Club Juniors

The JNJG Harvey Norman Week of Golf is a major junior tournament that attracts talented golfers from around NSW and beyond. It’s a huge event of 5 days play, over 5 different courses (North Ryde, Pennant Hills, Avondale, Cumberland and Muirfield) and Wentworth Falls had three of our juniors playing in it. They did extremely well too…

Aiden Cullen had a consistent week and came 24th in his age group. Chazz Ritchie had a great week, which included the only Eagle on a Par 4 from the field, coming 14th in his age group. Harry Daniels got a personal best score in one of his rounds and got his best ever finish in a JNJG event, coming 5th in his age group. David Paddison’s lessons are certainly working a treat.

Speaking of which, Wentworth Falls Pro Shop is holding one of their famous school holiday clinics on Tuesday 22nd January. The clinic runs from 10am-1pm for under 10’s and 10am-3pm for 11 years and over. Cost is $30 for the younger kids and $40 for the older age group. Cost includes all equipment and tuition. It also includes lunch, snacks and a drink. Call the Pro Shop on 4757 1202 to book or for more details.

I just wanted to write to let you know just how impressed I was with your club. In fact, everyone who attended the lunch was very, very impressed. Your staff could not have been more friendly, efficient and helpful. Even the young guy behind the bar was super-friendly whilst still being professional.  The food, without exception, was tremendous.
– Anne Hutchins
We often take family and visitors to the Thursday/Friday night servings and always found that everybody has enjoyed the food. The service is great with contact with the chef and his staff are wonderful and nothing is a problem for them even on a fully booked night they are so obliging.
– Mark R
Lovely Country golf club, with nice views over the course. Friendly atmosphere and reasonable prices.
– Martin C
An excellent venue for a special function. Friendly helpful staff and scrumptious food. I attended two Christmas lunches this past week and both were terrific. Also the Friday night carvery is worth trying. And the coffee is good too.
– Maunie K
This club has a real atmosphere about it and it never fails to please. Food, service all good. The servings are very generous and on most occasions are served quite quickly. The wine prices are attractive.
– Geoffrey W
My grandparents live in the area and after staying longer than expected visiting them suggested we have dinner at the country club. The only complaint I have is that they didn't tell me how good It was! - or I wouldn't have had so much for lunch.
– r b
A great course with attractive flora and fauna, and highly recommended for anyone visiting the Blue Mountains.
– Naysan H
Thank you to my good friends at Wentworth Falls Country Club for your support and Fund raising to help me get to World Championships in Germany. This club and its community have supported me over the past 10 years, and for that I'm grateful. The Friendliest and best club in the Mountains.
– Moe Westmoreland
The Society of Mountain Artists had their Christmas lunch at the club last Thursday. It was the best ever, the club goes out of its way to make it work and the food was outstanding.
– Marie Morris
My family and I would like to thank Jackie and Matt and everyone else at the club for making our daughters and son in law Monique & Joel's wedding such a wonderful night. It was an amazing night and all of our guests commented on the friendliness of your staff and how lovely the food was. I thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
– Julie Christie
Cannot express how well the staff helped on our wedding day, food was delicious, great atmosphere. Thank you.
– Nicky Fungo
I had my wedding here in November… place looked great, staff are so helpful. Definitely recommend.
– Christina Clarke
We had our wedding reception here last year and absolutely loved it. Awesome food and we got to drive up in a golf buggy.
