The Week at Wenty

Movember is over for another year and many a partner has welcomed back the skin of their loved one. Saturday Night was our Katoomba High School Movember Foundation trivia and all up the cause is almost $5000 better off.  What a great effort by Tom Daniels and the folk from Katoomba High School. Mental Health and Golf aren’t always words used in the same sentence but it was fantastic that we could make our contribution, and have fun to boot.

It is fitting that our club is working towards becoming a living breathing mountains community support hub. There is so much we can do.

It’s all about bringing people together.

Little things like bringing back the Friday/ Saturday evening raffles on 7th December with great sponsored prizes and even cash jackpots.

Things like hosting Fundraiser Trivia Nights like Movember and Great Golf Days like Greystanes Disabilities, supporting worthwhile local causes.

Putting on great Shows like the upcoming Baby Boomers Impersonator on the 8th December, the Elvis Festival and more live theatre.

Things like opening our doors to local community and sports groups looking for a place to meet.

And then there’s the golf. We will be hosting more out of district visitors next year with our Junior and Ladies inter-district pennants teams being joined by our Metropolitan Mixed Pennants team. Once they have played at Wenty, we know they will be back for more.

It’s been a while coming but our short course will be up and running by Xmas which will support our senior golfers and offer a bridge for new juniors and beginner golfers.

We will also have a new golfing calendar coming out, offering more teams events, being more inclusive and welcoming to new members.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, soooooooooooooooooo much we can do.

Also, don’t forget to sign up for the district pennants in 2019.

Seniors Single Matchplay (off scratch), Masters Over 50s singles Matchplay (3/4 handicap difference) and the new Teams Kortum Shield (any age, 2BBB Matchplay (3/4 handicap difference).

The sheet is up at the club awaiting your name and number.

We have been covering all the changes in the rules in 2019 on a weekly basis and I’ve just about exhausted all the major changes. The new rules books are available in the club and at the pro-shop and take effect in just 4 weeks.

We have had so much on this week, so I’ll just start at the top.

On Sunday we hosted the Volkswagen Scramble. Lots of visitors and members swung their way around the course but in the end, the team of Matteen Mashal, Chazz Ritchie and Laurance and Mary Petkevitch had a 55 nett and earned their way into the regional Final to be held down the mountain early next year. Supported with the careful coaching and motivational efforts by our pro Dave Paddison, they can even win their way to the nationals. You just need a couple of hot putters on the day.

Saturday was a superb day with the majority of the field enjoying a leisurely Stableford round whilst 9 brave couples boarded the Star Ship Wenty, exploring strange new worlds and going where no man (or woman) have gone before. With lasers set on stun, our Mixed Foursomes Championship starters fought valiantly to bring down the carryover and odds-on favourites Magda Cawthorne and Jeff Pails. Alas, it was a bridge too far and Jeff and Magda carded 80 off the stick to win by 8. Next year, next year.

In the Stableford comp, we had the rare event of someone going sub-par off the stick. Bronco Djura had 68 off the stick. I’ll have to have a round with Bronco soon to see how he does it. Surely it can’t be a simple as hitting it long and straight and backing that up with a great short game.

Mick Casey shot 41 points to stop Bronco cleaning up with Paul ”Riviera” Nagle and the “Big Boppa” Sean Sparks landing the minor prizes with solid handicap rounds.

Friday’s 10 hole comp had another solid day out with Mark Edwards leading the way.

Just 3 names stole all the prizes on Thursday’s Stableford and Teams event. John Celeban, Steve Parker, John Kelly took all the money. This would not have been the case had Mark Griffin had not have overhit his tee shot on the Jackpot hole 9th and ended up 96cm away. That’s a great golf shot on any day but that 16cm cost Mark over $500.

Don’t worry Mark, all things come to those who wait, wait, wait…………………

There is beauty in symmetry and on Tuesday, we had 44 in the field and a visitor, Peter MCovey shot 44 points. I can’t wait until we hit 50 on Tuesday cause that will be quite a show.

I just wanted to write to let you know just how impressed I was with your club. In fact, everyone who attended the lunch was very, very impressed. Your staff could not have been more friendly, efficient and helpful. Even the young guy behind the bar was super-friendly whilst still being professional.  The food, without exception, was tremendous.

We often take family and visitors to the Thursday/Friday night servings and always found that everybody has enjoyed the food. The service is great with contact with the chef and his staff are wonderful and nothing is a problem for them even on a fully booked night they are so obliging.
– Mark R
Lovely Country golf club, with nice views over the course. Friendly atmosphere and reasonable prices.
– Martin C
An excellent venue for a special function. Friendly helpful staff and scrumptious food. I attended two Christmas lunches this past week and both were terrific. Also the Friday night carvery is worth trying. And the coffee is good too.
– Maunie K
This club has a real atmosphere about it and it never fails to please. Food, service all good. The servings are very generous and on most occasions are served quite quickly. The wine prices are attractive.
– Geoffrey W
My grandparents live in the area and after staying longer than expected visiting them suggested we have dinner at the country club. The only complaint I have is that they didn't tell me how good It was! - or I wouldn't have had so much for lunch.

A great course with attractive flora and fauna, and highly recommended for anyone visiting the Blue Mountains.
– Naysan H
Thank you to my good friends at Wentworth Falls Country Club for your support and Fund raising to help me get to World Championships in Germany. This club and its community have supported me over the past 10 years, and for that I'm grateful. The Friendliest and best club in the Mountains.
– Moe Westmoreland
The Society of Mountain Artists had their Christmas lunch at the club last Thursday. It was the best ever, the club goes out of its way to make it work and the food was outstanding.
– Marie Morris
My family and I would like to thank Jackie and Matt and everyone else at the club for making our daughters and son in law Monique & Joel's wedding such a wonderful night. It was an amazing night and all of our guests commented on the friendliness of your staff and how lovely the food was. I thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
– Julie Christie
Cannot express how well the staff helped on our wedding day, food was delicious, great atmosphere. Thank you.
– Nicky Fungo
I had my wedding here in November… place looked great, staff are so helpful. Definitely recommend.
