The Week at Wenty

In a week where an 8-time Olympic Gold Medallist Sprinter and the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, played in an A League football trial and scored two goals. (Give him a shot in the middle order for the Australian Cricket Side)

In a week where Rezdel won another 6 million Dollars in The Everest Horse race to go with the 6 Million won last year.  (Nuf said on that))

In a week where Australia retained it’s Prime Minister.(I was at Parliament House on Monday, they have run out of wall space for Ex Prime Minister Portraits)

In a week where a piece of Artwork was sold at Sotheby’s and then was immediately shredded as part of the deal. (Going, Going, Gone they said.)

In a week where we learnt that in Canberra, school zones last all day, not just the hours when the kids are coming and going. (Kerching, Kerching goes the state Goverment coffers)

In a week where Steve Giles had our third “Hole in One” for the year, Sean Sparks lipped out for a Hole in One on the 9th yet missed out on the Jackpot by 6cm and no one with a Handicap over 18 figured in any of the week’s men’s prizes.

Strange times indeed!!!

It’s been a tough week for both Golf and the Club, with the rain impacting bums in carts and bums on seats. One bright light was the installation of our Reverse Recycling machine in the top car park. This will deliver $1000 per month to us plus the revenue from recycling our waste, and provides a fantastic community service. Just waiting now for the rain to clear and the sparkie to come and power it up.

I was not going to put a little dad joke in this week, but a find myself having difficulty resisting, as well as being inspired by Frank Tregier, who has always has one to share.

So……………………,

A Lamaze room was full of pregnant women and their partners, and the Lamaze class was in full swing.

The instructor was teaching the women how to breathe properly, along with informing the men how to give the necessary assurances. The instructor then announced, "Ladies, exercise is good for you. Walking is especially beneficial. And, gentlemen, it wouldn't hurt you to take the time to go walking with your partner!"

The room went quiet. Finally, a man in the middle of the group raised his hand. "Yes?" replied the instructor... "Is it all right if she carries a golf bag while we walk?"

In the clubhouse……………………………

Next Saturday 20th, we are having the Katoomba Public School P&C Trivia Fundraising night. It’s a great cause and Amanda Galbraith and her team are keen to outdo Tom Daniels effort of $3500 when he hosted the Katoomba High School Trivia Night. There is a great time to be had so come along and join us from 630pm. Tickets are $10 per head and everything goes towards Katoomba Public School P&C.

On the course…………………..,

We have a feast of events upcoming on the course.

On Wednesday October 17th, we are hosting The Ladies Blue Mountains Week of Golf. We are expecting over 100 starters, so a great day will be had. Thanks again to all of those members lending there golf carts for the event.

On Saturday 3rd November, one of our Premier Events of the year will take place. The Wentworth Falls Open, sponsored by “ I Talk Travel and Cruise Blue Mountains”, is on again with over $5000 in Prizes.

The very next week, On Sunday 11th November, we are hosting The Blue Mountains Open where players from all over the district will come play at Wenty.

On top of all of this, our Winston Pickering Graded Matchplay and The Cock-of-the-Walk team’s Matchplay are all well on the way to deciding the year’s champs.

On Sunday, our Ladies inter-district Pennants had a bye this week but our Juniors were on display. The Junior Pennants team had a win over the might of Stone Cutters and the Encouragement shield went down fighting.Well done to the Juniors and thanks again to all the parents who make it possible for the kids to play.

On Saturday, the hole in the Ozone layer lined up above Wenty Golf Course and no one got wet. A small but classy field competed in the Single Stableford and 2 Ball Multi event.

Graem Bush, the “Greatest B Grader in the Universe”, showed us all how to navigate 18 holes at Wenty as he scored a fab 39 points and finished head and shoulders above everybody else.  Graem also teamed up with Ken Dargan, a visitor from Stonecutters to win the team prize. As the bell rang for Saturday Presentation, Graem’s table was adrift in cashey money as Ken also won the mystery hole.

General consensus is that Graem will find himself back in A Grade before Dave our Pro shaves his head again.

In the women’s event, Sandi Cameron turned the form corner and had her first win in a few Prime Ministers. Good on you Sandy and let’s role this form into your next Pennants game at Glenmore Park.

Thursday's event Saw Lachlan Cullen, one of our Juniors, take the win which backed up a runner’s up performance in Tuesday's medley. Steve Giles came runner up on Thursday after winning on Tuesday so him and Lachlan had a Mortgage on the money during the week. Just to top it off, Steve had a Hole in One on the 5th on Tuesday. That little effort means that Steve has had a Hole In One at every golf club he has been a member of. That is some achievement Steve.

Don’t worry everyone, Lachy is back at school next week but on the flip-side, I doubt Steve has a date with a playtime lunchbox anytime soon.

The Jackpot Hole 9th is now up over $1100. The “Big Bopper” Sean Sparks proved that he is more than just the longest hitter in the club, as his tee shot at the 9th on Thursday lipped out for a hole in one. He already had the money spent on approach to the green, but on arrival, no matter which way he measured it, he ended up 86cm from the hole, missing out by just 6cm. How good is golf eh Sean.

Wenty Juniors

Sunday 14th October will go down in history as the day that Wentworth Falls hit the big time. Not only do we have a Junior Pennants team, we have a victorious Junior Pennants team. Taking on Stonecutters Ridge at Stonecutters Ridge was always going to be a challenge, but the team rose to the occasion, winning 3 ½ to 2 ½. Matteen halved his match, while Chazz, Aiden & Sam won theirs.

Our Encourage Shield also put in a strong performance, going down 4-2 to Windsor at Oatlands in a really close contest. The matches that we lost went down to the wire. Angus won his match and Ollie also had a win by a whopping; wait for it… 8&7.

On Sunday WFCC will be hosting the Junior Pennants. Make sure you come along and check out some amazing golfing action. There will be bacon & egg rolls on the BBQ if the golf isn’t enough. Our Encourage Shield team are playing at Lynwood on Sunday. Another game, another great course.

School is back this week, which means so are the junior clinics. The Beginners clinic is on Wednesday and the Advanced clinic is on Tuesday. Both clinics start at 4pm and both are FREE. Call the pro shop on 4757 1202 for further details.

Pennants match play practice also happens on Wednesday and the kids are always up for a practice match with anyone. If you fancy giving one of our team members a match, then meet at the pro shop between 4pm & 4:30pm. Are you up for the challenge?

I just wanted to write to let you know just how impressed I was with your club. In fact, everyone who attended the lunch was very, very impressed. Your staff could not have been more friendly, efficient and helpful. Even the young guy behind the bar was super-friendly whilst still being professional.  The food, without exception, was tremendous.
– Anne Hutchins
We often take family and visitors to the Thursday/Friday night servings and always found that everybody has enjoyed the food. The service is great with contact with the chef and his staff are wonderful and nothing is a problem for them even on a fully booked night they are so obliging.
– Mark R
Lovely Country golf club, with nice views over the course. Friendly atmosphere and reasonable prices.
– Martin C
An excellent venue for a special function. Friendly helpful staff and scrumptious food. I attended two Christmas lunches this past week and both were terrific. Also the Friday night carvery is worth trying. And the coffee is good too.
– Maunie K
This club has a real atmosphere about it and it never fails to please. Food, service all good. The servings are very generous and on most occasions are served quite quickly. The wine prices are attractive.
– Geoffrey W
My grandparents live in the area and after staying longer than expected visiting them suggested we have dinner at the country club. The only complaint I have is that they didn't tell me how good It was! - or I wouldn't have had so much for lunch.

A great course with attractive flora and fauna, and highly recommended for anyone visiting the Blue Mountains.
– Naysan H
Thank you to my good friends at Wentworth Falls Country Club for your support and Fund raising to help me get to World Championships in Germany. This club and its community have supported me over the past 10 years, and for that I'm grateful. The Friendliest and best club in the Mountains.
– Moe Westmoreland
The Society of Mountain Artists had their Christmas lunch at the club last Thursday. It was the best ever, the club goes out of its way to make it work and the food was outstanding.
– Marie Morris
My family and I would like to thank Jackie and Matt and everyone else at the club for making our daughters and son in law Monique & Joel's wedding such a wonderful night. It was an amazing night and all of our guests commented on the friendliness of your staff and how lovely the food was. I thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
– Julie Christie
Cannot express how well the staff helped on our wedding day, food was delicious, great atmosphere. Thank you.
