 The Week at Wenty

And the rain came down.  Damien left us on Friday but still managed to organise some great rainfall on his way out. Chris, Dave and Laurance look forward to the challenge on the continuous improvement process that Damien led. We all wish Damien and his family the best in QLD and Chris and his team the best in Wenty.

Now, for this week’s little giggler.

On a golf tour in Ireland, Tiger Woods drives his BMW into a petrol station in a remote part of the Irish countryside. The pump attendant, obviously knows nothing about golf, greets him in a typical Irish manner completely unaware of who this golfing great is. “Top of the mornin’ to yer, sir” says the attendant. Tiger nods a quick “hello” and bends forward to pick up the nozzle. As he does so, two tees fall out of his shirt pocket onto the ground. “What are those?, asks the attendant. “They’re called tees” replies Tiger. “Well, what on the god’s earth are dey for?” inquires the Irishman. “They’re for resting my balls on when I’m driving”, says Tiger. “Fookin Jaysus”, says the Irishman, “BMW thinks of everything!”

In the clubhouse……………………………

Michael will be off this week as he had a family trip organised before he started with us. He says it will be a great opportunity to use all the information he has gathered in the last couple of weeks to come back and really start kicking things along.

On Saturday 20th October Katoomba Public School will be having their Fundraising Trivia night at the club and that will be a blast. Tickets are $10 per head and everything goes towards their P&C. Get along if you can.

On the course…………………..,

There is nothing quite like representing your club.

Sunday saw our Ladies inter-district Pennants side take on Camden. All the teams were there as Wenty was the host this week. Thanks goes out to our members that donated their Golf carts at late notice. Even though the rain came down, every team showed up and took on the Wenty challenge. Our girls went down fighting, but we had our first ever match win with Ebony Waugh winning on the 18th. Linda squared her match, so the final score was the win to Camden 4 ½ to 1 ½. I can smell a win coming ladies.

Both our Junior teams travelled on Sunday as well and Tom’s Junior report covers their fine efforts.

Our Vets play at Leura on Monday.

Saturday was the annual Captain vs Presidents Single Par and 2BBB. The Captain's team has won the last 7 years on the trot. The teams are based on the days timesheets, with whoever is booked in on the left hand side of the sheet are in the captains side, and the 2 spots on the right hand side go in the Presidents side. With 6 players left to finish their rounds the scores were Minus 134 a piece, with Captain Steve still holding hope of making it 8 in a row. Chazz Ritchie and Tony McQuillan had been drawn on the President's team.  Chazz scored Square and won the days scratch, Tony had a respectable Minus 3 and won the Jackpot hole to boot. Captain Steve tried to add up the scores in all sorts of different ways, but at the end of the day, for once, the captain's pencil did not work,  the run was broken and President Pauls mob had one of those underdog victories that are supposed to make you feel good. Hmmmpf, not so much.

The Days Event was won by Dave Burke who scored Plus 2 with Amelia Galbraith winning the women’s event with Plus 1.  You can tell it is school holidays as the teams’ event was won by young Oliver Cullen and Amelia with Plus 7.

Thursday was washed out but Tuesday saw a bumper field of 41 for the day’s stableford medley. Our Pro, Dave Paddison scored 37 points or 66 to back up 67 the week before. That boy can play! Dave will be taking some good form into some upcoming Pro-Am tournaments. Good luck Dave, do us proud.

The day’s event went to Richard Pym with 40 points just nudging out Lachlan Cullen with 39. Scratch winner was Aiden Cullen who carded a 79 off the stick. Aiden has a bet going with father Dave Cullen that he will match him by the end of the year. Dave’s currently of 5 so his not worried,……………..much.

Richard’s 40 points on Tuesday has inspired me to revert back to preferred lies on the fairways only from Tuesday 9th, so please, all thank Richard when you see him next.

Keep Swinging everyone and How Good is Golf!

Wenty Juniors

The wait is finally over and the Pennant season is upon us. The first game for our Junior Pennant side was against Camden at Penrith and was oh so close. Matteen & Chazz narrowly lost their matches on the 17th & 18th holes. Lachlan, Jacob & Amelia tied their matches with Jacob clawing back a 3-hole deficit. Harry’s game also went all the way to the last hole where he managed to sneak a win. Overall it was a 3 ½ - 2 ½ loss, but the signs are good.

Our Encourage Shied team travelled to the amazing Concord GC to take on Concord. Despite not winning a point, all the kids played their hearts out and had a fantastic time. What an experience for them.

Next week the Junior Pennants team play Stonecutters Ridge at their home track and the Encourage Shield team play Windsor at Oatlands.

As well as the start of the Pennant Season, it was a big week individually for three of our junior members too. On Tuesday, Aiden Cullen shot his first score in the 70’s, getting 79 off the stick in the Tuesday Comp.

Chazz Ritchie & Harry Daniels travelled to The Hunter Valley to play in the Jack Newton Junior (and Sub-Junior) International. Chazz hit plenty of good shots in difficult conditions at Cypress Lake and Harry had a steady week at Cessnock GC, coming in 11th place.

On Saturday, the Open Competition was a Par event and Amelia Galbraith streaked the field in the Ladies with a score of +1. Chazz Ritchie won Scratch as the best golfer of the day and Oliver Cullen won best Junior.

On Wednesday 10th October Supercoach David Paddison will be running one of his famous School Holiday Junior Golfing Clinics from 10am-3pm. Cost for the day is $30 which includes all tuition, equipment and lunch. To book, or for more information, contact Wentworth Falls Pro Shop on 4757 1202.

I just wanted to write to let you know just how impressed I was with your club. In fact, everyone who attended the lunch was very, very impressed. Your staff could not have been more friendly, efficient and helpful. Even the young guy behind the bar was super-friendly whilst still being professional.  The food, without exception, was tremendous.
– Anne Hutchins
We often take family and visitors to the Thursday/Friday night servings and always found that everybody has enjoyed the food. The service is great with contact with the chef and his staff are wonderful and nothing is a problem for them even on a fully booked night they are so obliging.
– Mark R
Lovely Country golf club, with nice views over the course. Friendly atmosphere and reasonable prices.
– Martin C
An excellent venue for a special function. Friendly helpful staff and scrumptious food. I attended two Christmas lunches this past week and both were terrific. Also the Friday night carvery is worth trying. And the coffee is good too.
– Maunie K
This club has a real atmosphere about it and it never fails to please. Food, service all good. The servings are very generous and on most occasions are served quite quickly. The wine prices are attractive.
– Geoffrey W
My grandparents live in the area and after staying longer than expected visiting them suggested we have dinner at the country club. The only complaint I have is that they didn't tell me how good It was! - or I wouldn't have had so much for lunch.

A great course with attractive flora and fauna, and highly recommended for anyone visiting the Blue Mountains.
– Naysan H
Thank you to my good friends at Wentworth Falls Country Club for your support and Fund raising to help me get to World Championships in Germany. This club and its community have supported me over the past 10 years, and for that I'm grateful. The Friendliest and best club in the Mountains.
– Moe Westmoreland
The Society of Mountain Artists had their Christmas lunch at the club last Thursday. It was the best ever, the club goes out of its way to make it work and the food was outstanding.
– Marie Morris
My family and I would like to thank Jackie and Matt and everyone else at the club for making our daughters and son in law Monique & Joel's wedding such a wonderful night. It was an amazing night and all of our guests commented on the friendliness of your staff and how lovely the food was. I thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
– Julie Christie
Cannot express how well the staff helped on our wedding day, food was delicious, great atmosphere. Thank you.
– Nicky Fungo
I had my wedding here in November… place looked great, staff are so helpful. Definitely recommend.
