The Week at Wenty

Everything is a changin’. That’s how it has to be now-days or you get left behind like a surfer who missed that one great wave on a Saturday morning at Bondi.

So, Walter Mockli, Robert the Scott and a heap of our weekday warriers are forever telling me great “dad” jokes and I always forget them. (old timers disease gets us all).

So…………., we will start off each of our wraps with a golfing joke. Golfers are usually pretty easy marks when it comes to jokes, it sort of comes with the territory.

A man was addressing the ball on the first tee at Wenty when our pro Dave announced over the loud-speaker: "Will the gentleman on hole number one please not hit from the Ladies' tee box."

The man backs away, a little distracted, then approaches his ball again. As he does, Dave again announces over the loud-speaker: "Will the gentleman on hole number one please not hit from the Ladies' tee box."

The man is getting irritated now, and after backing away from his shot, approaches his ball one more time. Dave again announced over the load speaker: "We really need the gentleman on hole number one to move off of the Ladies' tee box!"

To which the man turns around and yells: "And Dave, I really need you to pipe down and let me play my second shot!"

In the clubhouse……………………………

You will notice that there will be some changes in the Menu in Mo’s Bistro soon with Snitzells and other affordable great eats that should entice. Our once a month on a Friday Karaoke will be switching to Saturday nights. There will be more fund-raising nights for great local causes on Saturday nights as well. Saturday Presentations will be getting back raffles and prizes for those in the club. Open mike and local talent nights, Resident raffle nights and theme night Friday nights are also pencilled in.

That’s just a snippet of what’s coming soon. The whole objective here is to set up Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights so that our local community know that there will be something on at Wenty.

You will also notice soon that there will be a reverse recycling bin installed in the top car park. This will bring the club around 12K per year and offer a great community service.

On the course…………………..,

This next week is our last week with course Superintendent Damien Fox, so make sure you catch up with Damien, wish him well and say thanks. Under his leadership, the course has never been in better nick. Also, make sure you remind Damien to leave that incredible rain predictor that he has used so well. Chris will need it to carry on the great work.

The greens’ renovations started straight after the last Vet’s spikes left the first green on Monday. By end Tuesday the work had been done and a call was made to the golfing gods and it rained Tuesday night. Perfect! Give it a month and our greens will be back to their best.

Saturday saw our monthly medal and special mention goes to Jacob Cullen. Jacob had a personal best scratch score of 86 with a net 65. Any other day this would guarantee winning the day but golf can be cruel. Fresh from a putting lesson with Dave, Laurance Petkevitch, off 25, turned at 8 over and ended up carding a 63 net and the guzzlers was his. Great round Jacob, it happens to us all and well done Laurance. The handicapper will be calling.

Peter Sait hasn’t swung a club in anger for ages and managed to lose all his bad habits, cleaning up in A grade. In B grade, Chester Romanowski won the medal with a great round of 69 net. Best Golfer of the day was Steve Pole with 77 off the stick.

Magda Cawthorne had a great day out finishing top spot in the Handiskins final, won the Women’s medal and the Golden Goblet. You go girl!

The Handiskins Final was again a great battle. Magda, Sean, Mark and Chazz left nothing in the tank and shared the $1000.  It will be back again next year and the 5 weeks it runs really augments our Winter/Spring program. It’s a lot of fun.

Saturday was also the qualifier for the Dr R.B Holliday Singles Matchplay. Laurance and Jacob qualified 1 & 2 and the draw is rounded out by Gavin Cusak and Tom Daniels as final qualifiers. The draw will be up at the club this week and can be found on the web as well in Results.

On Thursday, Franky Olsen edged out the Big Bopper, Sean Sparks  by a point. Sean had a little payback in the Teams event, teaming up with Steve West to take the win.

It’s school Holidays from next week so prepare ye all for the Junior onslaught.

Also, Junior Pennants starts next Sunday and our Girls take on the might of Camden at Wenty in the Inter-district Pennants. On Wednesday and Thursday, Bill Slattford and David Hogan fly the Wenty Flag at the Keno 4ball at Bonneville.

Good luck to all of our Club Representatives, you are already winners.

Keep Swinging everyone and How Good is Golf!

Wenty Juniors

Look out everyone, the school holidays are here and there is plenty of junior golfing action ahead. But first we must reflect on the week that was. It all kicked off at the start of the week with the wonderful news that Chazz Ritchie has been selected in the Western Sydney Academy of Sport golf program. Congratulations Chazz, all that hard work is paying off.

On Saturday the kids had a good day on the course. In the Monthly Medal, Jacob Cullen came runner-up in C-Grade and won the scratch prize with a cracking score of nett 65. This would win it all on any other day, but fell agonisingly short this week. Matteen Mashal had a nice little win by taking out the Eagles Nest. Harry Daniels won the best junior score prize. Big winner of the day was Chazz Ritchie in the Handiskins final.

Now, let’s look forward. Two of our juniors, Chazz Ritchie & Harry Daniels, are competing in the Jack Newton International Classic this week. They will join over 400 junior golfers from around Australia and the world in the country’s largest junior golfing tournament. Good luck lads.

On Sunday the Junior Pennant Season begins and, for the first time ever, we have two teams competing. Our Encourage Shield team play at Concord and our Junior Pennant team play at Penrith. Go get ‘em kids.

On Wednesday 10th October Supercoach David Paddison will be running one of his famous School Holiday Junior Golfing Clinics from 10am-3pm. Cost for the day is $30 which includes all tuition, equipment and lunch. To book, or for more information, contact Wentworth Falls Pro Shop on 4757 1202.

I just wanted to write to let you know just how impressed I was with your club. In fact, everyone who attended the lunch was very, very impressed. Your staff could not have been more friendly, efficient and helpful. Even the young guy behind the bar was super-friendly whilst still being professional.  The food, without exception, was tremendous.
– Anne Hutchins
We often take family and visitors to the Thursday/Friday night servings and always found that everybody has enjoyed the food. The service is great with contact with the chef and his staff are wonderful and nothing is a problem for them even on a fully booked night they are so obliging.
– Mark R
Lovely Country golf club, with nice views over the course. Friendly atmosphere and reasonable prices.
– Martin C
An excellent venue for a special function. Friendly helpful staff and scrumptious food. I attended two Christmas lunches this past week and both were terrific. Also the Friday night carvery is worth trying. And the coffee is good too.
– Maunie K
This club has a real atmosphere about it and it never fails to please. Food, service all good. The servings are very generous and on most occasions are served quite quickly. The wine prices are attractive.
– Geoffrey W
My grandparents live in the area and after staying longer than expected visiting them suggested we have dinner at the country club. The only complaint I have is that they didn't tell me how good It was! - or I wouldn't have had so much for lunch.
– r b
A great course with attractive flora and fauna, and highly recommended for anyone visiting the Blue Mountains.
– Naysan H
Thank you to my good friends at Wentworth Falls Country Club for your support and Fund raising to help me get to World Championships in Germany. This club and its community have supported me over the past 10 years, and for that I'm grateful. The Friendliest and best club in the Mountains.
– Moe Westmoreland
The Society of Mountain Artists had their Christmas lunch at the club last Thursday. It was the best ever, the club goes out of its way to make it work and the food was outstanding.
– Marie Morris
My family and I would like to thank Jackie and Matt and everyone else at the club for making our daughters and son in law Monique & Joel's wedding such a wonderful night. It was an amazing night and all of our guests commented on the friendliness of your staff and how lovely the food was. I thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
– Julie Christie
Cannot express how well the staff helped on our wedding day, food was delicious, great atmosphere. Thank you.
– Nicky Fungo
I had my wedding here in November… place looked great, staff are so helpful. Definitely recommend.
– Christina Clarke
We had our wedding reception here last year and absolutely loved it. Awesome food and we got to drive up in a golf buggy.
