The Week at Wenty
Last week in the club we had another very successful Fund raising night, Mo’s Bistro begins to take shape, on the golf course one of our Lady members had the round of her life scoring 47 individual points, and the Cullens clean up again in our Monthly Medal.
They say that you should never let the truth get in the way of a good story.
It’s great when the truth actually works out to be a beauty. On September 11th at around 1130 am, Paul Gow and Braith Anasta and their team from Fox Sports will be at Wenty doing some TV. Now that’s got WOW factor.
In the Clubhouse………………,
Rotary have been in Australia for longer than even Billy Girdwood has been drawing breath. Just like Billy, they continue to do great things and are always a pleasure to engage with. Rotary run fund raising ventures across the country, their latest cause being that of supporting our farmers. It was a pleasure hosting them on Saturday night and our club helped raise almost $3,000.
Mo’s Bistro has had some rave reviews delivering great meals at reasonable prices with some really interesting daily specials. We will be running a Grand Opening soon so stay turned for details on when, the where speaks for itself.
This Friday night 31st ,Karaoke returns and there has been a bit of buzz about with lots of discussion re song choices. Would be great to see the place jumping so come up and have a blast. As Woody Alan once said, 90% of success is turning up and I think that epitomises Karaoke. Talent is optional.
On the course……….,
It was with great sadness that we had to accept the resignation of our Course Guru, Damien Fox. Damien has made such a difference to our course over the couple of years that he has been with us. The course is unrecognisable compared to it’s former self and this has added to each and everyone of us golfers’ enjoyment each time we step out onto the tee. Thank you Damien and we wish you and your family all the best for the future.
As mentioned above, we have Fox Sports coming to Wenty on Tuesday 11th. They have asked us to make available a couple of our best looking golfers to appear beside Paul Gow and Braith Anasta. Thinking about all our weekday warriors, its going to be hard to choose, but the cream will always rise to the top. Let’s get as many of us there as possible on the 11th and see where it goes from there. I’ll feed more details of the event next week.
On Monday 3rd September, we have our Blue Mountains Ladies Open. The proceeds go towards Katoomba Hospital so it’s another great cause that our club is behind.
At the moment, playing to your handicap will win you most events. The greens are fast, it’s cold and windy and course management is at a premium. 40 points would be a stunner, 43 points would be worth a shout at the bar, 45 points guarantee a win in powerball, so how do you describe 47 individual points. Mary Petkevitch did exactly that on Thursday. Words definitely are not enough. Well done Mary. That’s one for the ages. Oh, an incidentally, she won the day by a lazy 11 points. The closest to her was hubby Laurance with 36 points. I was lucky enough to be marking their cards and also happened to be Mary’s split sixes partner. I wish I could pick the horses as well as I pick my golfing partners.
On Saturday, the Cullen clan again cleaned up with Peter winning the guzzlers and the A grade Medal, Dave winning the day’s scratch and only Allan Dean stopping the Cullens going 1, 2 and 3. Allan knocked off Aiden Cullen in a countback for runners up.
In the much-anticipated playoff for the July A grade Monthly medal, Adrian Pabian, Murray Patterson and Grant Underwood all turned up had a shot at the title. We won’t mention the actual scores, but by the end of the day, there was a photo finish and Adrian won the medal by a stroke.
It wasn’t all good news for Adrian though. He put his tee shot on the 9th to 104cm, only 25 cms from $400. Any reasonable person would believe that winning the mystery hole instead would be a nice little consolation. However, there were Cullens in the field. Our very own smiling assassin, Dave Cullen left his tee shot on the 15th just 102cm from the hole and picked up the cash. It’s a cruel game.
Graem Bush, the best B grader in the universe, won the medal and in C grade, it was Bill McMullan who took the honours with a 69 net. Mary Petkevitch borrowed a few strokes from her thursday performance and won the Golden Goblet. There will certainly be no excuses for her not to be well lubricated for her Friday night Karaoke.
John Wilson represents 3 generations of members at our club and finished King of the clan in Tuesday’s Medley. Well done John and don’t be surprised if you are tapped on the should when Fox Sports wants to know what Golf at Wentworth Falls is all about.
Family.

Only days until our Family Fun Day on Sunday 2nd September. There is a little bit of everything on the day. You can play 4-person Ambrose in the morning, do the fun challenges in the afternoon, or of course you can do both. The afternoon activities include putt-putt golf, inflatable hitting nett, beat the pro chipping challenge and a raffle with some fantastic prizes, including a Ping golf bag. The BBQ will also be pumping. What a cracking way to spend Father’s Day. Call Wentworth Falls Pro Shop on 4757 1202 to book a tee time for the Ambrose or for more information about the day.
Aiden Cullen won the junior prize for the Monthly Medal on Saturday, but perhaps more importantly, his brother Rylan Cullen made his competition debut and hit plenty of lovely shots. Another day, another Cullen…
WFCC have two teams competing in Pennants this year. The competition doesn’t start until October, but training has begun. This is handicap match-play practice and our kids would like to practice with each other and other club members. If ever you are able to help out by giving our juniors a “practice match” please meet at the pro shop between 4:00-4:30pm on Wednesdays.
