The Week at Wenty

Firstly, I need to apologise to all of those who read the results in the blue Mountains Gazette. We had a wee incident during the always eventful school run occur, involving a Tourist who has or possibly has not a license to drive in Australia, an old Ford with dodgy brake lights and a sudden stop on the way over the bridge just south of Wenty shops. Deadlines were missed and for that I apologise.

Another 180 competitive rounds last week and that puts us at a massive 520 rounds better than last year, YTD. Thanks to all of our members and visitors. With spring only just over a month away, we are on track to record the best competition rounds result in 6 years.

It’s just great to see a lot of our midweek warriors getting amongst the coin and even though the blood moon hid itself behind cloud cover on Saturday morning, this rare event was eclipsed (could not resist that one) when Bill McInnes lobbed his tee shot on the 9th to 39cm and again won the jackpot hole. Yes, again. Twice. Bill has now included the Jackpot Hole funds in his annual budget and thanks you all. Oh, he also won the Saturday Mystery Hole.

In the Clubhouse…………………………..,

Everyone has taken to our July Sponsor’s Satyr range and Coca-Cola’s Yenda beers continue to be a favourite. Whilst Manuel still chases rats around the kitchen for another week in Faulty Tales, we have lots of great events coming up in August, the highlight being the return of the Elvis festival on the weekend of 17th, 18th and 19th . This event was a blast last year and this year they have international Elvis’s in the line up. The spaceship Elvis is about to land at Wenty so get some tickets and enjoy. On 11th August, we have our Katoomba HS Trivia night. Tom Daniels will be our Quiz Master for this one so the night will be a cracker and funds go towards a great public school that many of us have a history with.

On the 25th we have our Rotary Trivia Event. Come and support another great community cause.

On the course………………………………….,

Tuesday’s Medley continues to grow in part due to regular visitors from our sister clubs. Ro Perry made the best of great conditions and scored an impressive 40 points. Ron Wiseman was the best of the locals.

On Thursday, John Fuller again took the prize. There is an air of Tiger Woods at his peek with John right now. After winning the inaugural Coca Cola Challenge at the end of June, it seems that everyone else is playing for second when John is in the field. I’m sure the handicapper will finally have their way but right now John is enjoying his very own Xmas in July. John Roberts scored the Golden Ticket in partnering up with Mr Fuller to take out the teams. Leonie Wilson won the Ladies event as she herself continues her great form. Keep it going Leonie as a ticket to Bonneville awaits in a couple of weeks when we host the Ladies District final of Keno 4Ball with a place in the State Final up for grabs.

Saturday was not only our July Monthly Medal, but also the qualifier for this year’s Winston Pickering Graded Matchplay Championships. Grant Underwood, Murray Patterson and Adrian Pabian all had a 69 net so the A Grade July Medal will have to be decided next month. Colin Stockley finished as the number 1 seed in the A Grade Matchplay qualifier. He will play Danny Waugh who snuck in at the expense of Dave Cullen who had a bit of trouble getting his ball acquainted with the cup on the 18th. We all know how you feel Dave. As we all know, whether rain, hail or shine, Colin always delivers but beware the lefty. In B Grade, Joss Bennet took the medal, the Guzzler and topped the rankings in the Matchplay qualifier. Joss has been seen regularly out practicing(should be banned) since he moved in across from the ninth hole, so my money is on Joss this year. Having said that, the Hunter is lurking. Gary filled his trophy cabinet last year so will always be a threat. In C Grade, Bob Shakeshaft won the medal from Gerald Murray, with John Fuller coming in third. (There’s that name again) In the C Grade qualifier, we have youth and colour.  The youth is supplied by Jacob and Lachlan Cullen whereas the colour is supplied by Andy McLean. Andy takes on Jacob in the 1 vs 8 matchup. Sunglasses are a must Jacob. Johnny Byrne takes on the other young’un’ in Lachlan Cullen. Winter is when John shines so look out Lachie.

In the Women’s event, Sue West closed out her round with a chip-in net eagle on the 15th, a net  birdie on the 17th and another net eagle on the 18th. That sort of finish will always see you challenge for the win and was good enough to nudge out the Club Champ Kerry Regan. The Golden Goblet is again hers. For someone who hates the cold, Winter Golf certainly seems to agree with her.

Wenty Juniors

Ryan Ivery can now play from the tees after breaking the magical 15 point barrier in his Cadets round on Sunday. Next step… an official handicap.

Here are the results from Sunday’s Junior 10-hole Challenge: 1st – Oliver Cullen, 22 points; =2nd – Ryan Ivery & Jesse Hardaker, 18 points; =4th – Lachlan Cullen & Harry Daniels, 12 points; 6th – Rylan Cullen, 11 points; 7th – William Taiyakupt, 8 points; 8th – Mitchell Browne, 4 points.

In the Saturday Open Competition, Aiden Cullen won the junior prize with Nett 77.

A reminder that Wentworth Falls Pro Shop will be holding a Family Fun Day on Sunday 2nd September. This will be a day of many fun-filled golfing activities, including 4-person Ambrose, putt-putt golf, inflatable hitting net, BBQ and more.

Don’t forget our weekly junior clinics. The advanced clinic is on Tuesday’s and the beginner’s clinic is on Wednesday’s. Both clinics start at 4pm and are completely FREE of charge. For more information contact Wentworth Falls Pro Shop on 4757 1202.

I just wanted to write to let you know just how impressed I was with your club. In fact, everyone who attended the lunch was very, very impressed. Your staff could not have been more friendly, efficient and helpful. Even the young guy behind the bar was super-friendly whilst still being professional.  The food, without exception, was tremendous.
– Anne Hutchins
We often take family and visitors to the Thursday/Friday night servings and always found that everybody has enjoyed the food. The service is great with contact with the chef and his staff are wonderful and nothing is a problem for them even on a fully booked night they are so obliging.
– Mark R
Lovely Country golf club, with nice views over the course. Friendly atmosphere and reasonable prices.
– Martin C
An excellent venue for a special function. Friendly helpful staff and scrumptious food. I attended two Christmas lunches this past week and both were terrific. Also the Friday night carvery is worth trying. And the coffee is good too.
– Maunie K
This club has a real atmosphere about it and it never fails to please. Food, service all good. The servings are very generous and on most occasions are served quite quickly. The wine prices are attractive.
– Geoffrey W
My grandparents live in the area and after staying longer than expected visiting them suggested we have dinner at the country club. The only complaint I have is that they didn't tell me how good It was! - or I wouldn't have had so much for lunch.

A great course with attractive flora and fauna, and highly recommended for anyone visiting the Blue Mountains.
– Naysan H
Thank you to my good friends at Wentworth Falls Country Club for your support and Fund raising to help me get to World Championships in Germany. This club and its community have supported me over the past 10 years, and for that I'm grateful. The Friendliest and best club in the Mountains.
– Moe Westmoreland
The Society of Mountain Artists had their Christmas lunch at the club last Thursday. It was the best ever, the club goes out of its way to make it work and the food was outstanding.
– Marie Morris
My family and I would like to thank Jackie and Matt and everyone else at the club for making our daughters and son in law Monique & Joel's wedding such a wonderful night. It was an amazing night and all of our guests commented on the friendliness of your staff and how lovely the food was. I thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
– Julie Christie
Cannot express how well the staff helped on our wedding day, food was delicious, great atmosphere. Thank you.
– Nicky Fungo
I had my wedding here in November… place looked great, staff are so helpful. Definitely recommend.
– Christina Clarke
We had our wedding reception here last year and absolutely loved it. Awesome food and we got to drive up in a golf buggy.
