 The Week at Wenty

.It was great to see Tiger woods in contention again at the British open. Only a bad lie in the rough just off the fairway cost him his 15th Major. I put a call into the R&A earlier on in the week and left a message that they should make it preferred lies tee to green. If it’s good enough for Wenty, it’s good enough for Carnoustie. Up till now, no one has gotten back to me.

It’s not all bad though. Our Aussie boy, Cameron Smith came 78th with +10 and still walked away with $23000. Tommy Armour won the title in 1931 and pocketed $100 (pounds actually but I don’t have a pounds symbol on my laptop).

In the Clubhouse…………………………..,

July is sponsored by our friends at Selini Wines. They have a great range of really good value wines behind the bar, so make sure you sample one of their Satyr range sold by the glass.

Our monthly Karaoke won’t be on last Friday of this month (27th July) as I doubt our guests and actors in Faulty Tales will want to hear a guttural rendition of Khe Sahn during the show. That’s just a personal opinion but for our growing band of Karaoke performers, it will return on Friday 31st August. Gives us all a bit more time to practice the high notes. On 11th August, we have our Katoomba HS Trivia night and then on 25th we have our Rotary Trivia Event. Everyone is welcome and each night supports great community causes.

On the course………………………………….,

Both the Women’s and the Men’s NSW Keno Fourball club qualifiers were played this week and this year the district final is being played at Wenty in August. How do you reckon all the other clubs’ hopefuls will handle our slick greens at the moment? Talk about a home court advantage.  So…….., all of our Bonneville hopefuls teamed up and when the dust settled we had 2 Women’s and 2 Men’s qualifies, their eyes firmly set on making the state final. The club will be represented by Lea Schaefer, Leonie Wilson, Sue Maloney and Sue West in the women’s comp. Our men will be represented by Dave Hogan, Bill Slatford, Danny Waugh and Steve West. All the best folks and knock ‘em dead in the final.

Steve Parker scored the winner’s cheque on Tuesday with Gavin Cusack just a shot behind. Gavin is knocking on the A grade door now so welcome Gavin, and to the added frustration(sorry, fun) that comes with that. The jackpot hole is growing again and maybe I’ll ask Damien to place the pin back left to make it more of a challenge (just joking). It’s great to see it go off.

Thursday saw our very own “mid-week special” Frank Tregier knock on the door of victory, only to be beaten on count back by the quiet achiever, Sean Sparks. As they said in the movie “Braveheart”, some men are longer than others, and Sean really gets it out there. Sean put his Tea Shot on the first within 5 meters of the green. If it’s any consolation, he walked off with a 5 but when he does put it all together, the course record books may get a rewrite. Young Lachlan Cullen came in third place on Thursday and backed it up with another 3rd place on Saturday. Lachlan gets to experience the joy of seeing your handicap go down without a win. How good is golf hey Lachie.

In the women’s comp, Leonie Wilson tamed the beast that is par handicap best of all to come away with a win from Sue Maloney. Don’t be dismayed ladies, everyone hates par handicap.

Mr Mid-Week partnered up with Ron Wiseman (the only member this year to have a hole in one). Frank and Ron combined beautifully to win the teams event with 46 points OCB.

Saturday was one of those special, sunny winter days in the mountains where it truly was a great day for a walk.  On many of these occasions, the golf does not live up to the day, but for David Hogan and Chester Romanowski, all the ducks lined up. David had a cracking 40 points with Chester having 38 and finishing runner up. There must be something in playing early. I will have to try it one day.

Sue West had a win in the women’s event. Sue had a net eagle on the 17th and a net birdie on the 18th to close out a great day.

Our remastered Mystery hole was won by Wayne Clayton who cosied his ball up to the pin on the 5th hole to 57cm. Wayne was the nearest to the pin when taking into account all of the best shots on our 3 pars and walked away with the money.

Wenty Juniors

The inaugural JNJG Under 12 State Championships were held last week and Wentworth Falls had a representative. He did quite well too, getting a top ten finish after 4 rounds of great junior golf. Congratulations Harry Daniels.

While one of our juniors was playing State Champs, 13 budding young golfers attended an amazing school holiday clinic at WFCC, hosted by our fabulous Pro, Dave Paddison. His able assistant was our Junior Pennant Captain, Chazz Ritchie. It was a fantastic day of hitting, chipping, putting, playing, eating and laughing. Now that school is back so are our weekly junior clinics. The advanced clinic is on Tuesday’s and the beginner’s clinic is on Wednesday’s. Both clinics start at 4pm and are completely FREE of charge. For more information contact Wentworth Falls Pro Shop on 4757 1202.

Here are the results from Sunday’s Junior 10-hole Challenge: 1st – Jesse Hardaker, 17 points; 2nd – Liam Griffiths, 12 points; 3rd – William Taiyakupt, 7 points; 4th – Mitchell Browne, 5 points.

In the Saturday Open Competition, Lachlan Cullen had a good day coming in 3rd place with 36 points.

A reminder that Wentworth Falls Pro Shop will be holding a Family Fun Day on Sunday 2nd September. This will be a day of many fun-filled golfing activities, including 4-person Ambrose, putt-putt golf, inflatable hitting net, BBQ and more.

I just wanted to write to let you know just how impressed I was with your club. In fact, everyone who attended the lunch was very, very impressed. Your staff could not have been more friendly, efficient and helpful. Even the young guy behind the bar was super-friendly whilst still being professional.  The food, without exception, was tremendous.
– Anne Hutchins
We often take family and visitors to the Thursday/Friday night servings and always found that everybody has enjoyed the food. The service is great with contact with the chef and his staff are wonderful and nothing is a problem for them even on a fully booked night they are so obliging.
– Mark R
Lovely Country golf club, with nice views over the course. Friendly atmosphere and reasonable prices.
– Martin C
An excellent venue for a special function. Friendly helpful staff and scrumptious food. I attended two Christmas lunches this past week and both were terrific. Also the Friday night carvery is worth trying. And the coffee is good too.
– Maunie K
This club has a real atmosphere about it and it never fails to please. Food, service all good. The servings are very generous and on most occasions are served quite quickly. The wine prices are attractive.
– Geoffrey W
My grandparents live in the area and after staying longer than expected visiting them suggested we have dinner at the country club. The only complaint I have is that they didn't tell me how good It was! - or I wouldn't have had so much for lunch.
– r b
A great course with attractive flora and fauna, and highly recommended for anyone visiting the Blue Mountains.
– Naysan H
Thank you to my good friends at Wentworth Falls Country Club for your support and Fund raising to help me get to World Championships in Germany. This club and its community have supported me over the past 10 years, and for that I'm grateful. The Friendliest and best club in the Mountains.
– Moe Westmoreland
The Society of Mountain Artists had their Christmas lunch at the club last Thursday. It was the best ever, the club goes out of its way to make it work and the food was outstanding.
– Marie Morris
My family and I would like to thank Jackie and Matt and everyone else at the club for making our daughters and son in law Monique & Joel's wedding such a wonderful night. It was an amazing night and all of our guests commented on the friendliness of your staff and how lovely the food was. I thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
– Julie Christie
Cannot express how well the staff helped on our wedding day, food was delicious, great atmosphere. Thank you.
– Nicky Fungo
I had my wedding here in November… place looked great, staff are so helpful. Definitely recommend.
– Christina Clarke
We had our wedding reception here last year and absolutely loved it. Awesome food and we got to drive up in a golf buggy.
