The Week at Wenty

Cold, cold mornings, afternoons that are windy and even and colder, toss in a little rain, sleet and snow, and you have July in the mountains.  Even with all this, we still had almost 200 competitive rounds this week so hat’s off to all our brave golfers.

We have lots of great events coming up to at least warm the competitive spirits. The Winston Pickering Graded Matchplay Champs, The Men’s and Women’s Keno Fourball and Our Club Handiskins are all on the agenda.

There is no warmth in the ground at the moment so there is no growth, but Damien and his team have prepared well for winter. Our green staff are relentless in their endeavour and all we can say is thanks.

In the Clubhouse…………………………..,

Presentation night was a blast. We had a heap of members there to celebrate not just winning, but being part of a community with over 100 years of history.

Our Juniors starred with many having their names now on our honour boards. That’s there forever lads, so becomes part of our history.

One of the highlights of the night was the presence of Jeanette Pickering and the renaming of our Graded Matchplay championships in honour of Winston.

The award for happy couple of the night was a toss-up between Rob Kennedy cuddling up to his BFF Dave Paddison and the partners in colour, Laurance Petkevitch and Andy McLean. Check out the photos and you’ll get my drift. We all wish both couples the best of luck. Speaking of photos, we all have to thank Sue West for ensuring that we all had our best sides on display as she did a sterling job behind the camera.

After Presentation we had music from local Band Yum. Pete Sait is part of our Pennants winning Masters side and it works out his alter ego is one hell of a guitarist. We hope to see him and Poppy performing regularly for us in the near future.

Thanks to everyone involved making it such a memorable night out and a special thanks to our major Sponsors, d’Vine Cellars, I Talk Travel and Cruise, Blue Mountains Mazda, Paddison Golf, Kennedy Golf and Katoomba Tyre Services.

There is a full list of all the year’s golfing achievements and a photo gallery to boot on the website.

The Clubhouse will be seeing lots of long overdue activity moving forward. Karaoke, Saturday night community group Trivia, more theatre, Friday themed residents’ nights, Kids Discos, Open mike nights, Darts and pool competitions. It all starts with the remastered Faulty Tales commencing on 14th July so look for upcoming dates and get involved. Our club needs your support.

On the course……………………………,

The Coca Cola Challenge drew to a climax with our mid-week warriors scooping most of the major prizes, the biggest prize being won by John Fuller, with Frank Olsen and Mark Griffin just missing out by a couple of chip-ins. John won a free, fully transferable membership, funded by Coca-Cola. Frank has won a free 10- hole Golf lesson with our Pro, Dave Paddison and Mark will get the choice of the other major prizes. (Yenda Beer, a Hi-tech Esky, Portable Speaker system). Thanks to Andrew and Jeff from Coca Cola and we look forward to next year’s competition.

There is a full leader board and a photo gallery on the website.

So, this week saw the Blue Mountains Vets join our Tuesday players. 47 of us knocked about with Ron Wiseman too good for everyone. Ron must have been inspired by seeing his name finally go up on the honour board as the only member with a Hole in One this year. John Fuller continued his great Coca Cola Challenge form coming in second.

Thursday was a 2-person Ambrose. Farquhar Boyd chose just the right horse to be saddled with in our Pro Dave Paddison and they won in a canter. John Roberts and Susan Maloney won the singles events.

Then there was Saturday. We had Sunshine, Wind, Rain, Sleet, Snow and 84 golfers amongst it all.  Somehow, Jeff Gorrie scored 38 points to win the men’s event. What an effort. Strange game this golf. It was a war of attrition and Sue West outlasted everyone in the Women’s event and then carried her partner and bride over the threshold to win the teams event. A win is a win and the bar credits of victory are already spent.

Wenty Juniors

Last week one of WFCC’s talented juniors, Amelia Galbraith, competed in the CHS State Championships over three rounds at Riverside Oaks. This was Amelia’s first tilt at a State championship and she did extremely well, coming in 32nd. That’s 32nd in NSW. What an amazing accomplishment, congratulations Milly.

School holidays are here, which means so is our Holiday Junior Clinic. For $30 kids of all ages and abilities will learn how to hit, chip, pitch, putt and play. Plenty of laughs will be had and we’ll even throw in some lunch. All this will take place on Wednesday 18th July. Call Wentworth Falls Pro Shop on 4757 1202 to book or for more details.

I just wanted to write to let you know just how impressed I was with your club. In fact, everyone who attended the lunch was very, very impressed. Your staff could not have been more friendly, efficient and helpful. Even the young guy behind the bar was super-friendly whilst still being professional.  The food, without exception, was tremendous.

We often take family and visitors to the Thursday/Friday night servings and always found that everybody has enjoyed the food. The service is great with contact with the chef and his staff are wonderful and nothing is a problem for them even on a fully booked night they are so obliging.
– Mark R
Lovely Country golf club, with nice views over the course. Friendly atmosphere and reasonable prices.
– Martin C
An excellent venue for a special function. Friendly helpful staff and scrumptious food. I attended two Christmas lunches this past week and both were terrific. Also the Friday night carvery is worth trying. And the coffee is good too.
– Maunie K
This club has a real atmosphere about it and it never fails to please. Food, service all good. The servings are very generous and on most occasions are served quite quickly. The wine prices are attractive.
– Geoffrey W
My grandparents live in the area and after staying longer than expected visiting them suggested we have dinner at the country club. The only complaint I have is that they didn't tell me how good It was! - or I wouldn't have had so much for lunch.

A great course with attractive flora and fauna, and highly recommended for anyone visiting the Blue Mountains.
– Naysan H
Thank you to my good friends at Wentworth Falls Country Club for your support and Fund raising to help me get to World Championships in Germany. This club and its community have supported me over the past 10 years, and for that I'm grateful. The Friendliest and best club in the Mountains.
– Moe Westmoreland
The Society of Mountain Artists had their Christmas lunch at the club last Thursday. It was the best ever, the club goes out of its way to make it work and the food was outstanding.
– Marie Morris
My family and I would like to thank Jackie and Matt and everyone else at the club for making our daughters and son in law Monique & Joel's wedding such a wonderful night. It was an amazing night and all of our guests commented on the friendliness of your staff and how lovely the food was. I thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
– Julie Christie
Cannot express how well the staff helped on our wedding day, food was delicious, great atmosphere. Thank you.
