The Vicar of Dibley came to Wentworth Falls this week and in keeping with this theme, we can refer to a little script that could easily be about golfers and their tenuous clasp on sanity.

Owen Newitt: I am not a lunatic. I have the psychiatric report to prove it. A slender majority of the panel decided in my favour.

It’s been an intense start to 2018 for our Golfers. A gruelling and successful Pennants season played in all weather conditions followed up by 4 stroke rounds of our Club Championships and then some fool puts a Par Handicap (that would be me) on the next week. Thank the golfing Gods for Stableford when you can pick up and utter that four letter word, WIPE, and go to the next tee.

The most resilient prize has to go to Dave Mellor from d’Vine Cellars. Dave sponsored our Pennants Teams, sponsored our Club Champs whilst all the while pushing “Clean Sweep” Gary Hunter all the way to the last round in his grade. Dave has now shifted gear into overdrive and taken the annual odyssey to Yarrawonga where a week of golf is followed by the daily challenge of the 19th hole. Good luck to Dave and all the other Wenty Warriors on tour in support.

The highlight this week was the first round of our Katoomba Tyre Services Cup. Steve Fitz, Jonathon Fitz and family have always been great supporters of the club and just keep fronting up to help.

The cup is an eclectic. Eclectic comps remind me of the pyramids in Egypt, which were also brought to earth from outer space by Aliens. Allen Helmrich somehow makes sense of it all and will have all the results distilled over the 3 weeks of the competition, ready for the final. There is still plenty of golf left to put yourself in contention for the big prize at the end. The major prize is up to four fully fitted brand new tyres, so unless you drive a Unicycle, it’s one hell of a prize. There are two grades in the Men and a separate grade for the Ladies and it all comes together on Sat 21st where the leaders of the 3 grades shoot it off in a chipping contest at the 10th green.

Saturday was a huge day for the club. In the golf, the top men’s grade was won by Peter Sygrave with 38 points from Aiden Cullen (junior Member). It was great to see Farquhar Boyd back in the saddle again. In the 2nd division, Donnie Henderson hit 81 off the stick off a handicap of 17 to come in with 43 points. The unluckiest golfer of the week prize goes to Mark Edwards who chose Saturday to play against Donnie in the Semi Final of the Odell Moore Matchplay knock out. It was like watching a new Ford Mustang racing against my old 1964 EH Holden around Bathurst. Mark took the belting (7&6) in good spirit and did mention that he was All square when they teed off.

In the Ladies, our Club Champion Kerry Regan continued her dominance posting 39 points and was seen later checking the tread on her tyres in anticipation.

After the golf, the day’s presentation included raffles and the big draw off our 2018 membership Pay by April prizes. Patricia Crummer won the big prize. Pat has been a great sponsor of the club for many years, so it was very apt that her name was drawn. The winner in the Social Category was Ian McCredie.

The week started on Easter Monday where a small and chocolate free field knocked it about with the eventual winner being Sue West.

Tuesday saw Stewart Williams doing all sorts of damage to his handicap by winning by 5 from John Wilson.

On Thursday, Laurance Petkevitch won a close one from “Gold Medal “Peter Wong.  Christine Hargreaves won the Ladies and Derek Hodge and Mick Woolen were too good in the team’s event.

I just wanted to write to let you know just how impressed I was with your club. In fact, everyone who attended the lunch was very, very impressed. Your staff could not have been more friendly, efficient and helpful. Even the young guy behind the bar was super-friendly whilst still being professional.  The food, without exception, was tremendous.
– Anne Hutchins
We often take family and visitors to the Thursday/Friday night servings and always found that everybody has enjoyed the food. The service is great with contact with the chef and his staff are wonderful and nothing is a problem for them even on a fully booked night they are so obliging.
– Mark R
Lovely Country golf club, with nice views over the course. Friendly atmosphere and reasonable prices.
– Martin C
An excellent venue for a special function. Friendly helpful staff and scrumptious food. I attended two Christmas lunches this past week and both were terrific. Also the Friday night carvery is worth trying. And the coffee is good too.
– Maunie K
This club has a real atmosphere about it and it never fails to please. Food, service all good. The servings are very generous and on most occasions are served quite quickly. The wine prices are attractive.
– Geoffrey W
My grandparents live in the area and after staying longer than expected visiting them suggested we have dinner at the country club. The only complaint I have is that they didn't tell me how good It was! - or I wouldn't have had so much for lunch.

A great course with attractive flora and fauna, and highly recommended for anyone visiting the Blue Mountains.
– Naysan H
Thank you to my good friends at Wentworth Falls Country Club for your support and Fund raising to help me get to World Championships in Germany. This club and its community have supported me over the past 10 years, and for that I'm grateful. The Friendliest and best club in the Mountains.
– Moe Westmoreland
The Society of Mountain Artists had their Christmas lunch at the club last Thursday. It was the best ever, the club goes out of its way to make it work and the food was outstanding.
– Marie Morris
My family and I would like to thank Jackie and Matt and everyone else at the club for making our daughters and son in law Monique & Joel's wedding such a wonderful night. It was an amazing night and all of our guests commented on the friendliness of your staff and how lovely the food was. I thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
– Julie Christie
Cannot express how well the staff helped on our wedding day, food was delicious, great atmosphere. Thank you.
– Nicky Fungo
I had my wedding here in November… place looked great, staff are so helpful. Definitely recommend.
– Christina Clarke
We had our wedding reception here last year and absolutely loved it. Awesome food and we got to drive up in a golf buggy.
