Wentworth Falls Country Club

Just like at Bathurst V8 Supercars, the start of our d’Vine Cellars Club Champs saw crashes, bolters and long-time favourites stamp their claims. It’s a long race, a war of attrition with 120 of our members in the fight. Our green keeping staff have created a fantastic canvas for us all to produce our best work, so thank to Damien and the crew.

This week, we’d like to give special thanks to a couple more of the people who make such a difference to our club. Apart from being one of the best golfers at the club (and a lefty to boot), Danny Waugh is a gifted Graphic Designer and artist. Have a look around the club at the posters that “dance off the wall”, and you will find that it was Danny that gave his time and flare in their production. “Merci mon ami.” Secondly, we’d like to mention young Jordon who you will see around the club. Jordon runs our Thursday night Trivia. The Trivia night adds a lot to the club so thanks Jordon.

The early Golfers on Saturday needed a GPS locator inside their self-correcting golf balls (available at the pro-shop for a limited time only) as the fog was thicker than Dave Warners cricket bat. There were safety calls of “All Clear” until around 9am when the fog lifted, and the rest of the day was plain sailing for all our competitors.

In the Ladies, Philippa Parker has laid a great platform in the top division whilst Susan Taylor cemented her spot at the top of the secondary division. A lot will depend on “Moving Day”, or the third round, so Ladies, pray to whatever Golfing God will listen and good luck.

The Men’s first round had the bookies running for coverage as some fast starters emerged, none more so than in A grade. Our current Club Champ Matt Hickey has the lead, but there are a number of players nipping at his heals, notably Chazz Ritchie, Dave Cullen, Danny Waugh and our bolter of the week, Dominic Wardlaw. In B Grade, Grant Underwood and Jamie Galbraith have set the early pace but you cannot win it in the first round. In C grade, Donnie Henderson continued his great form over the last month and is now a strong contender.

A special mention goes out to Major sponsor Dave Mellor from d’Vine Cellars. Dave’s sponsorship delivers fantastic prizes every day of the Club Champs. Also, thanks to Sileni Wines for supplying all the nearest to the pin and putting prizes.

Over the last few months, the course has been a bit of a pussycat, with the 40-point barrier being breached regularly. It seems like it is now ready to “Unleash the tiger within” as playing to your handicap is a great score. Vic Smiley did just that to win from Mark Edwards on Thursday. Vic, with the new handicap system, A grade is ready to welcome you with open arms. Ruth Lucas won the ladies with 34 points while Steve Williams and Colin Foster, always a lethal combination, had a win in the teams.

Tuesday was a shocker of a day with fog, rain and wind. Only a few brave mud runners took to the course rather than enjoy the pleasures of the Savoy for the morning.

Wentworth Falls Country Club Juniors

Sometimes life just gets in the way of golf. Saturday was one of these times (Boys Brigade, football, basketball etc.) which meant that only 4 juniors were able to play in the Club Championship. The one’s that were able to play did themselves proud, particularly Chazz Ritchie who is only 5 shots off the pace going in to the second round.

On Wednesday, Amelia Galbraith had a good day at Stonecutters Ridge GC where she came 3rd in the Sydney West Secondary School Championships. This result saw her selected in the Sydney West team for the upcoming CHS Championships.

Don’t forget the FREE junior clinics. The beginner’s clinic is on Friday and the advanced on Tuesday, both clinics start at 4pm. Contact the pro shop on 4757 1899 for further details.

I just wanted to write to let you know just how impressed I was with your club. In fact, everyone who attended the lunch was very, very impressed. Your staff could not have been more friendly, efficient and helpful. Even the young guy behind the bar was super-friendly whilst still being professional.  The food, without exception, was tremendous.
– Anne Hutchins
We often take family and visitors to the Thursday/Friday night servings and always found that everybody has enjoyed the food. The service is great with contact with the chef and his staff are wonderful and nothing is a problem for them even on a fully booked night they are so obliging.
– Mark R
Lovely Country golf club, with nice views over the course. Friendly atmosphere and reasonable prices.
– Martin C
An excellent venue for a special function. Friendly helpful staff and scrumptious food. I attended two Christmas lunches this past week and both were terrific. Also the Friday night carvery is worth trying. And the coffee is good too.
– Maunie K
This club has a real atmosphere about it and it never fails to please. Food, service all good. The servings are very generous and on most occasions are served quite quickly. The wine prices are attractive.
– Geoffrey W
My grandparents live in the area and after staying longer than expected visiting them suggested we have dinner at the country club. The only complaint I have is that they didn't tell me how good It was! - or I wouldn't have had so much for lunch.
– r b
A great course with attractive flora and fauna, and highly recommended for anyone visiting the Blue Mountains.
– Naysan H
Thank you to my good friends at Wentworth Falls Country Club for your support and Fund raising to help me get to World Championships in Germany. This club and its community have supported me over the past 10 years, and for that I'm grateful. The Friendliest and best club in the Mountains.
– Moe Westmoreland
The Society of Mountain Artists had their Christmas lunch at the club last Thursday. It was the best ever, the club goes out of its way to make it work and the food was outstanding.
– Marie Morris
My family and I would like to thank Jackie and Matt and everyone else at the club for making our daughters and son in law Monique & Joel's wedding such a wonderful night. It was an amazing night and all of our guests commented on the friendliness of your staff and how lovely the food was. I thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
– Julie Christie
Cannot express how well the staff helped on our wedding day, food was delicious, great atmosphere. Thank you.
– Nicky Fungo
I had my wedding here in November… place looked great, staff are so helpful. Definitely recommend.
– Christina Clarke
We had our wedding reception here last year and absolutely loved it. Awesome food and we got to drive up in a golf buggy.
