How much fun you have on the golf course is for the most part, directly related to how well you play. Many of our regular playing members must have had loads of fun this week as average scores remained high, personal bests achieved, and handicaps continued to drop. This trend has been happening for a little while now and our Course Superintendent Damien, and his team, can take a decent slice of the credit. His coordination of the volunteers in raising the canopy under trees and the removal of dead and dying trees, the condition of the greens, more grass on the fairways, all have had an impact. Better scoring equals more confidence and more confidence equals better scoring and the cycle continues., all end up with us having more fun. That’s what Golf is all about. We had 189 competitive rounds this week including the Mid-Week Gold Medal playoff.

WEEKLY TRIVIA QUESTION: When and where was the first official game of golf played in Australia? (answer at end of editorial)

Sunday saw the 3rd round of the District Pennants and we again made a clean sweep, although both matches were won at last gasp. Murray’s Masters came from 2 down but won the last 3 matches to take the win. They sit on top of the table and will play the final and deciding match against Blackheath in 2 weeks. Pete Cullen’s seniors made it 2 out of three wins. Tied at 2 games all, Pete’s new number 1, Danny Waugh, came home with a crushing 7 & 6 win to keep the dream alive. Special mention must go to Dave Cullen who is undefeated this year. Our Kortum teams had a bye this week but play each other at home next Sunday.

Saturday saw a great field deliver great scores. Not often you score 44 points and it not be good enough but Bill Slatford posted that great result only to see Donny Henderson record a personal best with 45 points. Bill did have some good news though as he took out the teams’ event with John McInnes OCB from Perennial Bridesmaids, Laurie McCracken and Tony McQuillan. It was mentioned more than once that if Laurie and Tony are the bridesmaids, then the wedding video would certainly be worth a look. In the Ladies event, Diane Smith matched Donny’s 45 points with one of her own. It was great to see Sandi and John Menin back at the club again. They were kind enough not to win everything on the day, but they were still playing the 19th hole in the club at about 1030 Saturday night. Lefties know how to party! Special thanks go to our Juniors this week who obviously got together before the start of play and agreed to let to old buggers have a few wins. Thanks kids. Harry Daniels took out the best Junior of the day.

Thursday saw the midweek medal and Gold Medal playoff. John Turner won the A Grade Medal on the day and in a twist, also won the Gold Medal for B Grade. Just to keep the Twilight Zone music going, Walter Mockli won the C Grade Gold Medal. Walter (Lefty) Mockli was the well-deserved winner of the day’s C grade medal and John Armstrong won the Gold Medal in A grade. In the Ladies, Tilly Elderfield had a sensational 6 under 68 net and won the day.

Tuesday saw Vic Smiley cruise to victory by 4 points over Mark Griffin.

Well done to all our winners and participants.

PS. When your partner tells you they do not want anything for Valentines Day, they are kidding, OK?

I just wanted to write to let you know just how impressed I was with your club. In fact, everyone who attended the lunch was very, very impressed. Your staff could not have been more friendly, efficient and helpful. Even the young guy behind the bar was super-friendly whilst still being professional.  The food, without exception, was tremendous.
– Anne Hutchins
We often take family and visitors to the Thursday/Friday night servings and always found that everybody has enjoyed the food. The service is great with contact with the chef and his staff are wonderful and nothing is a problem for them even on a fully booked night they are so obliging.
– Mark R
Lovely Country golf club, with nice views over the course. Friendly atmosphere and reasonable prices.
– Martin C
An excellent venue for a special function. Friendly helpful staff and scrumptious food. I attended two Christmas lunches this past week and both were terrific. Also the Friday night carvery is worth trying. And the coffee is good too.
– Maunie K
This club has a real atmosphere about it and it never fails to please. Food, service all good. The servings are very generous and on most occasions are served quite quickly. The wine prices are attractive.
– Geoffrey W
My grandparents live in the area and after staying longer than expected visiting them suggested we have dinner at the country club. The only complaint I have is that they didn't tell me how good It was! - or I wouldn't have had so much for lunch.

A great course with attractive flora and fauna, and highly recommended for anyone visiting the Blue Mountains.
– Naysan H
Thank you to my good friends at Wentworth Falls Country Club for your support and Fund raising to help me get to World Championships in Germany. This club and its community have supported me over the past 10 years, and for that I'm grateful. The Friendliest and best club in the Mountains.
– Moe Westmoreland
The Society of Mountain Artists had their Christmas lunch at the club last Thursday. It was the best ever, the club goes out of its way to make it work and the food was outstanding.
– Marie Morris
My family and I would like to thank Jackie and Matt and everyone else at the club for making our daughters and son in law Monique & Joel's wedding such a wonderful night. It was an amazing night and all of our guests commented on the friendliness of your staff and how lovely the food was. I thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
– Julie Christie
Cannot express how well the staff helped on our wedding day, food was delicious, great atmosphere. Thank you.
– Nicky Fungo
