We had more action this week than an Alice Springs Pub advertising free beer, which makes this report harder to start than my old 1976 Leyland P76. So…………….., we had the last week of school holidays, Australia Day celebrations, and an extra competition day, Monthly Medals, Gold Medal playoffs, first week of the District Pennants and qualifiers for the Odell-Moore Knockout. Yowza, Yowza.

WEEKLY TRIVIA QUESTION: Who has more members of the top 100 in the world Golf Rankings, Australian Men or Australian Women?

Sunday saw the first round of the 2018 district Pennants and we can proudly announce that Wenty is undefeated to date having completed the “Miracle at Oberon”. Our Seniors Pennant team beat Leura 3 to 2 and our Masters team also had a win against Leura 4.5 to 1.5. Murray’s Masters were always going to be hard to beat but our Seniors team had it’s first win for many years. There were many colourful “victory from defeat “ stories back at the club afterwards but methinks the real reason was those new shirts. Damn they are sexy!

Thanks again to our wonderful Pennant Shirts sponsors D’Vine Cellars at Wentworth Falls.

Saturday’s Monthly Medal was also the Gold Medal Playoff for Medals won during 2017. The Gold Medal winners were Farquhar Boyd, Peter Wong and Harry Daniels in their grades. Farquhar also  won January’s Medal in A grade and Laurance Petkevitch romped in C grade with a fantastic 65 Net also scooping up the Guzzlers Cup. The B grade medal for January is still in contention with Harry Daniels and Bill Slatford having to play off next month for honours. The Ladies are on a Stroke play sabbatical at the moment and instead played a Single Stableford. It was tight as a drum at the top with Magda Cawthorne, Jenny Whellens and Mary Petkevitch all carding 39 points. On the day, It was Mary who won on a countback but single figures beckons for Magda with her continued great play. On top of all of this, our 16 qualifiers for the Odell-Moore knockout were decided on Saturday. There are some interesting match-ups in the draw of this handicapped Matchplay event.

Our midweek fixtures were dominated by our Juniors. Sam Kennedy won both with 42 points and Tuesday and a breathtaking 49 points on Thursday. Sam missed a 12 inch putt on 18 on Thursday for 50 points. Only the valiant efforts of Allan Callow on Tuesday and Frank Olsen on Thursday stopped a Junior whitewash. The smartest play of the week goes to Graem Bush who teamed up with Sam to win the Teams. In the Ladies on Thursday, Mary Petkevitch had a win and has now dropped 7 strokes over Xmas. On Friday, we had a special Australia day comp with Andrew Loftus proving too good in front of Steve West.

Congratulations to all our Winners and Participants.

Sunday 4th February: 2ND Round District Pennants (Seniors, Masters, Kortum Shield)

Saturday 3rd February: WFCC Summer Cup

Thursday 8th February: Midweek Gold Medal Playoff

Wentworth Falls Country Club Juniors

Before we go in to the amazing results from our juniors this week, let’s just remind everyone that school’s back. This means two things: 1. everyone else will have more chance of winning, and 2. the FREE junior clinics are back. The beginner’s clinic is on Friday and the advanced on Tuesday, both clinics start at 4pm. Contact the pro shop on 4757 1899 for further details.

The last week of the holidays started with a bang with Sam Kennedy taking out the Tuesday comp with 42 Stableford points. This was the first time Sam shot a score in the 90’s off the stick and boy was he happy. Imagine his excitement when on Thursday he broke 90 for the first time to record 49 Stableford points. This score was identical to his 2BBB score (Graem Bush sure picked a good partner). *the attached photo is of Graem with Sam & Harry.

The last Saturday in January see’s the running of the Gold Medal Playoff. More than a few juniors won a Monthly Medal in 2017 and one of them was lucky enough to win the C-Grade Gold Medal. Harry Daniels, who actually now plays B-Grade.

Saturday saw another highlight for the WFCC juniors with two of them getting selected to represent the club in the 2018 Pennants. Aiden Cullen will play in the Kortum Shield and Chazz Ritchie will make his Senior debut. Chazz actually played in the first game on Sunday. He won his game 4&3 to help WFCC to victory. What a perfect end to an amazing school holidays for our kids.

There is always a plethora of junior action happening at WFCC. To keep up to date with everything, hit up the Wentworth Falls Junior Golfers Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Wentworth-Falls-Junior-Golfers-166131040568639/ and press “like” or “follow”.

2018 Wentworth Falls Country Club Pennants Players

I just wanted to write to let you know just how impressed I was with your club. In fact, everyone who attended the lunch was very, very impressed. Your staff could not have been more friendly, efficient and helpful. Even the young guy behind the bar was super-friendly whilst still being professional.  The food, without exception, was tremendous.
– Anne Hutchins
We often take family and visitors to the Thursday/Friday night servings and always found that everybody has enjoyed the food. The service is great with contact with the chef and his staff are wonderful and nothing is a problem for them even on a fully booked night they are so obliging.
– Mark R
Lovely Country golf club, with nice views over the course. Friendly atmosphere and reasonable prices.
– Martin C
An excellent venue for a special function. Friendly helpful staff and scrumptious food. I attended two Christmas lunches this past week and both were terrific. Also the Friday night carvery is worth trying. And the coffee is good too.
– Maunie K
This club has a real atmosphere about it and it never fails to please. Food, service all good. The servings are very generous and on most occasions are served quite quickly. The wine prices are attractive.
– Geoffrey W
My grandparents live in the area and after staying longer than expected visiting them suggested we have dinner at the country club. The only complaint I have is that they didn't tell me how good It was! - or I wouldn't have had so much for lunch.
– r b
A great course with attractive flora and fauna, and highly recommended for anyone visiting the Blue Mountains.
– Naysan H
Thank you to my good friends at Wentworth Falls Country Club for your support and Fund raising to help me get to World Championships in Germany. This club and its community have supported me over the past 10 years, and for that I'm grateful. The Friendliest and best club in the Mountains.
– Moe Westmoreland
The Society of Mountain Artists had their Christmas lunch at the club last Thursday. It was the best ever, the club goes out of its way to make it work and the food was outstanding.
– Marie Morris
My family and I would like to thank Jackie and Matt and everyone else at the club for making our daughters and son in law Monique & Joel's wedding such a wonderful night. It was an amazing night and all of our guests commented on the friendliness of your staff and how lovely the food was. I thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
– Julie Christie
Cannot express how well the staff helped on our wedding day, food was delicious, great atmosphere. Thank you.
– Nicky Fungo
I had my wedding here in November… place looked great, staff are so helpful. Definitely recommend.
– Christina Clarke
We had our wedding reception here last year and absolutely loved it. Awesome food and we got to drive up in a golf buggy.
