Christmas only comes once a year. Well………. In the mountains as we get 2 Christmases every year. We have Xmas in July and then we lead up to the more traditional Xmas that we are fast approaching. On reflection, I am glad we don’t get 2 birthdays every year because I’d be 116 and have no reason to resist being the cranky old bugger that I am. So, as we approach this next festive season, we submit our bank accounts, credit cards, brain cells and digestive systems to way too much stress, we visit way too many car parks, shopping centres and seam to continually being asked to smile for a photo with a fat guy in a red suit. But truly, when it all comes down to it, we would not have it any other way.

Another super week on the coarse. The fairways have never looked better and the greens are quickly recovering from our recent renovation, rolling true and over the next couple of weeks, will begin to run faster than the check out at Coles on Xmas eve.

WEEKLY TRIVIA QUESTION: Which two Aussie golfers have lost a playoff in all 4 majors? (answer at end of editorial)

On Saturday, Mick Casey received an early Xmas present beating Peter Wong OCB scoring 43 points. It’s not to often you score 43 points and come second, but Peter can get a small measure of satisfaction as he trumped Mick’s 25 putts with his own 24 putts. A similar pain was felt by Ebony Waugh in the ladies as a cracking 42 points was not enough to take the gong from Kerry Regan. Seems that Ebony needs a better warm up routine as the 1st hole was not her friend. Wenty entered the 21st century on Saturday as the team’s event required no extra cards to score, the results being calculated by our slice program. Lachlan and Jacob Cullen had 50 points to welcome in school holidays with a big win.

The boys had previously qualified for the final of the “Cock of the Walk” Matchplay. They are in form and now ready to take on the might of the Chancery Lane Lefties, after Danny Waugh and Steve West had a hard-fought win over Bruce Crossing and Bob Higgins. Bruce fought hard all day against unbelievable odds as he was the only right handed non-bulldog supporter of the 4some.

On Thursday, Murray Patterson, who could sink a putt using a skipping stone on a sand green blind folded with one arm in a hail storm, continued the 40 points theme for another win.

On Tuesday, Allen Helmrich topped a packed leader board with 38 points. It was tight at the top with another 3 at 38. Ahhhh, it is but a game of inches.

School Holidays is clearly now upon us, so for those whose schooling is a distant memory, methinks that the pickings over the next 6 weeks may be a little slim. Those young’uns are a coming.

The school holidays are here and the juniors have hit the ground running. On Saturday a number of them played in the open competition and all played really well. Chazz Ritchie was in the top 5 with a whopping 41 points and Jacob Cullen also made the podium with 40 points. Lachlan Cullen was best junior with 37 points.

Juniors, don’t forget that during the school holidays you can play in the open competitions on Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday; plus the Cadets 10-hole challenge is still on every Sunday.

Merry Christmas!!!

I just wanted to write to let you know just how impressed I was with your club. In fact, everyone who attended the lunch was very, very impressed. Your staff could not have been more friendly, efficient and helpful. Even the young guy behind the bar was super-friendly whilst still being professional.  The food, without exception, was tremendous.

We often take family and visitors to the Thursday/Friday night servings and always found that everybody has enjoyed the food. The service is great with contact with the chef and his staff are wonderful and nothing is a problem for them even on a fully booked night they are so obliging.
– Mark R
Lovely Country golf club, with nice views over the course. Friendly atmosphere and reasonable prices.
– Martin C
An excellent venue for a special function. Friendly helpful staff and scrumptious food. I attended two Christmas lunches this past week and both were terrific. Also the Friday night carvery is worth trying. And the coffee is good too.

This club has a real atmosphere about it and it never fails to please. Food, service all good. The servings are very generous and on most occasions are served quite quickly. The wine prices are attractive.

My grandparents live in the area and after staying longer than expected visiting them suggested we have dinner at the country club. The only complaint I have is that they didn't tell me how good It was! - or I wouldn't have had so much for lunch.

A great course with attractive flora and fauna, and highly recommended for anyone visiting the Blue Mountains.

Thank you to my good friends at Wentworth Falls Country Club for your support and Fund raising to help me get to World Championships in Germany. This club and its community have supported me over the past 10 years, and for that I'm grateful. The Friendliest and best club in the Mountains.
– Moe Westmoreland
The Society of Mountain Artists had their Christmas lunch at the club last Thursday. It was the best ever, the club goes out of its way to make it work and the food was outstanding.
– Marie Morris
My family and I would like to thank Jackie and Matt and everyone else at the club for making our daughters and son in law Monique & Joel's wedding such a wonderful night. It was an amazing night and all of our guests commented on the friendliness of your staff and how lovely the food was. I thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
– Julie Christie
