The Mountains can deliver. It can deliver winds that can raise the roof like an ACDC concert. It can deliver Hail that would even dent the bonnet of a HK Holden. It can deliver snow that can close public schools from Lawson to Mount Victoria and can deliver rain measured in centimetres rather than millimetres. It also can deliver days of pure bliss that cannot be matched. We got some of that bliss this week and didn’t we revel. Another 200 competitive rounds including international visitors no less.

WEEKLY TRIVIA QUESTION: Who is the highest world ranked Australian Amateur Golfer. (Answer at end of editorial)

Saturday saw the latest staging of our monthly medal for both Ladies and Men, including the coveted Guzzlers Cup and Golden Goblet. David Cameron cleaned up in A grade winning the Medal, The Guzzlers and the day’s putting. He was heard saying, as he walked up from the 18th to sign his card for an unbeatable 66 nett, “This is an easy game, don’t know what you guys are all whinging about”.

In B Grade, Jeff Gorrie has a real streak going. He has backed up his recent winning of the B grade Matchplay, with 41 points and the win on Thursday’s Stableford comp, and then wins the medal on Saturday. The HMAS Gorrie leaves quite a wake. Another on a role is Andy McClean. His form has even overshadowed his shirts of late. He has just won the C grade Foresomes and with Saturday’s C grade Medal, he has one 2 of the last 3 monthlies. Word is that Andy is going to take it to the next level and go with Body Paint. Go you good thing. In the Ladies, Mary Petkevitch put a bit of daylight between her and the rest of the field with a net 71, winning the medal and the Golden Goblet. In doing so, Mary also beat hubby off the stick. Discussion centered around what are the consequences of such a feat. The greatest hugger in the mountains, our trainee pro Luke, was all for public humiliation but don’t worry Laurance, we won’t say a word.

On Thursday, we held a 2/3 person Ambrose and a Single Stableford. Only a misread putt proved the difference in the Ambrose with the slick team of David Payen, Michael Zikan and John Kelly scoring 60.33 and just tipping out John Goodrick, Mick Woolan and Derek Hodge with 60.5. As mentioned above, the irrepressible Jeff Gorrie won the Stableford event from John Armstrong.

In our Tuesday Medley, a great field of 38 players saw Peter Wong knock out 40 points to win from Colin Foster.

Well done to all our winners and competitors alike.

WENTWORTH FALLS COUNTRY CLUB - JUNIORS

Many of our juniors ventured to The Australian Open over the weekend to see some of their hero’s in action. They all managed to get some autographs, balls and gloves. Young Sam even managed to get a signed glove from the winner, Cameron Davis. The kids did play some golf this weekend too…

On Saturday, Jacob & Lachlan Cullen won their semi-final of the Cock-of-the-Walk 4&3. They will play the final in a couple of weeks and we wish them both the best of luck. On Sunday, the kids that weren’t lucky enough to be at the golf played in the Cadets 10-hole challenge instead (and they played a little earlier than the usual 1:30pm start so they could watch the end of the Australian Open). This is a FREE event for any WFCC junior member and the results for the week are: 1st – Harry Daniels & Sam Kennedy, 16 points; 3rd – Aiden Cullen, 13 points; 4th – Rylan Cullen, playing his first game off the blue markers as he works towards his official handicap, 1 point. N.B. Last week Lachlan Cullen won the day with a whopping 27 points, that’s just one point off the Cadets record.

Don’t forget our FREE junior clinics. The beginner’s clinic is on Friday and the advanced is on Tuesday, both starting at 4pm. For more information, please contact Wentworth Falls Pro Shop on 4757 1899.

I just wanted to write to let you know just how impressed I was with your club. In fact, everyone who attended the lunch was very, very impressed. Your staff could not have been more friendly, efficient and helpful. Even the young guy behind the bar was super-friendly whilst still being professional.  The food, without exception, was tremendous.
– Anne Hutchins
We often take family and visitors to the Thursday/Friday night servings and always found that everybody has enjoyed the food. The service is great with contact with the chef and his staff are wonderful and nothing is a problem for them even on a fully booked night they are so obliging.
– Mark R
Lovely Country golf club, with nice views over the course. Friendly atmosphere and reasonable prices.
– Martin C
An excellent venue for a special function. Friendly helpful staff and scrumptious food. I attended two Christmas lunches this past week and both were terrific. Also the Friday night carvery is worth trying. And the coffee is good too.
– Maunie K
This club has a real atmosphere about it and it never fails to please. Food, service all good. The servings are very generous and on most occasions are served quite quickly. The wine prices are attractive.
– Geoffrey W
My grandparents live in the area and after staying longer than expected visiting them suggested we have dinner at the country club. The only complaint I have is that they didn't tell me how good It was! - or I wouldn't have had so much for lunch.
– r b
A great course with attractive flora and fauna, and highly recommended for anyone visiting the Blue Mountains.
– Naysan H
Thank you to my good friends at Wentworth Falls Country Club for your support and Fund raising to help me get to World Championships in Germany. This club and its community have supported me over the past 10 years, and for that I'm grateful. The Friendliest and best club in the Mountains.
– Moe Westmoreland
The Society of Mountain Artists had their Christmas lunch at the club last Thursday. It was the best ever, the club goes out of its way to make it work and the food was outstanding.
– Marie Morris
My family and I would like to thank Jackie and Matt and everyone else at the club for making our daughters and son in law Monique & Joel's wedding such a wonderful night. It was an amazing night and all of our guests commented on the friendliness of your staff and how lovely the food was. I thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
– Julie Christie
Cannot express how well the staff helped on our wedding day, food was delicious, great atmosphere. Thank you.
– Nicky Fungo
I had my wedding here in November… place looked great, staff are so helpful. Definitely recommend.
– Christina Clarke
We had our wedding reception here last year and absolutely loved it. Awesome food and we got to drive up in a golf buggy.
