So……………. The lack of rain is about as popular as Barnaby Joyce right now, but the positive is that we should get some relief before he does. Despite the dry, we still had exceptional fields of over 200 for the week with some great individual and team performances. Chinese New Year came around on Saturday and the year of the dog brought on some fantastic scraps. As usual in this great club, the winners were humble and the losers gracious. On Sunday, Wentworth Falls hosted the District Pennants. Special thanks must go to everyone who made the day such a great one. From our Sponsor D’Vine Cellars, our Greens Staff, our Brasserie owner Andrew, our Bar staff Kim and Aiden, our Proshop staff Dave, Tania, and for the day, Mary, our BBQ warriors Danny Waugh and Pete Cullen, and also, Dave Cullen, who played concierge for the day (akin to herding cats), ensuring everyone was fed and watered. It really was a team effort.

WEEKLY TRIVIA QUESTION: How many Australians ended up in the top 5 in this years Woman’s Australian Open? (Answer at end of Editorial)

The age range of our Pennants teams in 2018 range from 14 to 70. I haven’t seen this much excitement going into the last round of a competition since Australia won the Americas cup in 1983. We may not have a winged keel, but we do have enthusiasm, dedication and determination, and we have great shirts. The short story of our season is that this year, every one of our D’Vine Cellars Pennants teams is in with a chance of winning, and it all comes down to next week. Go Wenty!

On the day, our visitors were wrapped in the condition and presentation of the course. Everyone was especially complimentary of our greens. A couple of the boys told me that that had not experienced grass that good since the 1960s. I have no idea what they were referring to, but I took it as a positive.

On Saturday, we had Canadian Foursomes as our team event, supported by a Single Stableford for our Ladies and Men who were not feeling quite so cuddly. It was a case of “Divide and Conquer” for long term team mates Laurie McCracken and Tony McQuillan. Laurie teamed up with the man with the best Moustache since Tom Selleck in Magnum P.I, Bert Kryger, and won our Canadian Foursomes. Meanwhile, Tony McQuillan revelled in the conditions and swept everyone aside with a stunning 45 points in the Men’s Single Stableford. In the Ladies, Linda Loftus continued her good form leading up to the Club Championships to win from Joan Wood by 3 points, and Amelia Galbraith won Best Junior. Amelia’s pro shop account has now been officially classified as a war chest.

Thursday was that much maligned event Par Handicap, but a great field of 65 saw our reigning Guzzler, Laurance Petkevitch, win the men’s. However, the day belonged to Ruth Lucas who had a great win in the singles then combined beautifully with Pat Smiley to win the teams.UPCOMMING

I just wanted to write to let you know just how impressed I was with your club. In fact, everyone who attended the lunch was very, very impressed. Your staff could not have been more friendly, efficient and helpful. Even the young guy behind the bar was super-friendly whilst still being professional.  The food, without exception, was tremendous.
– Anne Hutchins
We often take family and visitors to the Thursday/Friday night servings and always found that everybody has enjoyed the food. The service is great with contact with the chef and his staff are wonderful and nothing is a problem for them even on a fully booked night they are so obliging.
– Mark R
Lovely Country golf club, with nice views over the course. Friendly atmosphere and reasonable prices.
– Martin C
An excellent venue for a special function. Friendly helpful staff and scrumptious food. I attended two Christmas lunches this past week and both were terrific. Also the Friday night carvery is worth trying. And the coffee is good too.
– Maunie K
This club has a real atmosphere about it and it never fails to please. Food, service all good. The servings are very generous and on most occasions are served quite quickly. The wine prices are attractive.
– Geoffrey W
My grandparents live in the area and after staying longer than expected visiting them suggested we have dinner at the country club. The only complaint I have is that they didn't tell me how good It was! - or I wouldn't have had so much for lunch.
– r b
A great course with attractive flora and fauna, and highly recommended for anyone visiting the Blue Mountains.
– Naysan H
Thank you to my good friends at Wentworth Falls Country Club for your support and Fund raising to help me get to World Championships in Germany. This club and its community have supported me over the past 10 years, and for that I'm grateful. The Friendliest and best club in the Mountains.
– Moe Westmoreland
The Society of Mountain Artists had their Christmas lunch at the club last Thursday. It was the best ever, the club goes out of its way to make it work and the food was outstanding.
– Marie Morris
My family and I would like to thank Jackie and Matt and everyone else at the club for making our daughters and son in law Monique & Joel's wedding such a wonderful night. It was an amazing night and all of our guests commented on the friendliness of your staff and how lovely the food was. I thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
– Julie Christie
Cannot express how well the staff helped on our wedding day, food was delicious, great atmosphere. Thank you.
– Nicky Fungo
I had my wedding here in November… place looked great, staff are so helpful. Definitely recommend.
– Christina Clarke
We had our wedding reception here last year and absolutely loved it. Awesome food and we got to drive up in a golf buggy.
