Graded Matchplay Championships Update 17.9.2017:

More action than a bookie on Melbourne Cup day. That’s what it is like at Wenty at the moment.  Ladies have their big day out, our Handiskins competitors smell the money as we move towards the final qualifiers, honour board Matchplay events brace for the finals and our Juniors ramp up for our first ever Jack Newton Junior Encouragement shield. We had another 191 competetive rounds played this week and how good is it to be involved in a sport where 76 years and 1 stroke is the difference between 1st and 2nd place.

Monday saw 41 ladies compete is the Wentworth Falls Ladies Open. They came from all over the mountain with our very own Ruth Lucas & Leonie Wilson taking the honours and doing us proud. Special thanks to our Ladies captain Kerrie Penfold for all her hard work.

Our Tuesday Open medley saw Arvi Rannaste cement his place as the King of Tuesdays pipping Walter “Lefty” Mockli.

On Thursday Doug Halpin came out in front of Ross Golotta with Leonie Wilson continuing her streak of form taking out the ladies. Doug teamed up with Mick Casey to win the days teams event.

For those of you who did not battle the winds on Saturday, you missed out. Billy “Apache” Girdwood circled the wagons and used all of his 89 years of experience to defy the conditions with an incredible win. Billy can always be seen during the week practicing his short game and there is probably a lesson for all of us there. Amazingly, Aiden Cullen, 76 years younger at 13, tied for second place. How good is this game we play. To add to the drama of Saturday, Christine Hargreaves had a 2 a 5 on the 5th, had her first ever eagle at the 7th for a 3 a 6 and turned at the 9th with 23 points. At the end of the day, Christine racked up 45 points to beat the entire field by 9 points. I’m not sure what she had for breakfast that day, but I want some. Hubby John, not to be without something to add over dinner, also had his first ever eagle on the 14th.

Clearly, Christine only needed a little help from her partner to win the teams event but alas, the help was not forthcoming and Billy and Partner John Baum took the prize. I spoke to Christine on Sunday, and Rob (our golf Pro), she forgives you.

This was the penultimate qualifying round of our Handiskins. Sue West won the day with a solid 36 points and is positioned well for a late charge into the top 4. I believe she is getting lessons in mental strength and playing under pressure from Col Stockley. Col is well qualified for this as he won the inaugural Handiskins, so look out, Sue has the bit between her teeth and is out to get ya’ll

Chazz Ritchie won the best Junior Prize.

Well done to all our Winners and Participants.

The golfing future is in good hands at WFCC. Three of our juniors have successfully progressed to the next stage of the WFCC Junior Golf Development Program. At the Advance Junior Clinic on Tuesday William Taiyakupt, Connor Wodrow & Sebastian Wodrow were presented with their letter of invitation to start playing in the Junior 10-hole Challenge on Sundays. These boys have progressed from the Beginners Clinic (on Friday afternoons) to the Advanced Clinic (Tuesday afternoons) over the last few months and they are now ready to start playing some games. They’ll start their first game from the 150m markers. Well done lads!

As the school holidays are upon us, WFCC will be holding a School Holiday Clinic on Friday 6th October. Cost is $30, which includes all equipment, tuition and a yummy lunch. To book or for more information please contact Wentworth Falls Pro Shop on 4757 1899.

I just wanted to write to let you know just how impressed I was with your club. In fact, everyone who attended the lunch was very, very impressed. Your staff could not have been more friendly, efficient and helpful. Even the young guy behind the bar was super-friendly whilst still being professional.  The food, without exception, was tremendous.
– Anne Hutchins
We often take family and visitors to the Thursday/Friday night servings and always found that everybody has enjoyed the food. The service is great with contact with the chef and his staff are wonderful and nothing is a problem for them even on a fully booked night they are so obliging.
– Mark R
Lovely Country golf club, with nice views over the course. Friendly atmosphere and reasonable prices.
– Martin C
An excellent venue for a special function. Friendly helpful staff and scrumptious food. I attended two Christmas lunches this past week and both were terrific. Also the Friday night carvery is worth trying. And the coffee is good too.
– Maunie K
This club has a real atmosphere about it and it never fails to please. Food, service all good. The servings are very generous and on most occasions are served quite quickly. The wine prices are attractive.
– Geoffrey W
My grandparents live in the area and after staying longer than expected visiting them suggested we have dinner at the country club. The only complaint I have is that they didn't tell me how good It was! - or I wouldn't have had so much for lunch.

A great course with attractive flora and fauna, and highly recommended for anyone visiting the Blue Mountains.
– Naysan H
Thank you to my good friends at Wentworth Falls Country Club for your support and Fund raising to help me get to World Championships in Germany. This club and its community have supported me over the past 10 years, and for that I'm grateful. The Friendliest and best club in the Mountains.
– Moe Westmoreland
The Society of Mountain Artists had their Christmas lunch at the club last Thursday. It was the best ever, the club goes out of its way to make it work and the food was outstanding.
– Marie Morris
My family and I would like to thank Jackie and Matt and everyone else at the club for making our daughters and son in law Monique & Joel's wedding such a wonderful night. It was an amazing night and all of our guests commented on the friendliness of your staff and how lovely the food was. I thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
– Julie Christie
Cannot express how well the staff helped on our wedding day, food was delicious, great atmosphere. Thank you.
– Nicky Fungo
I had my wedding here in November… place looked great, staff are so helpful. Definitely recommend.
– Christina Clarke
We had our wedding reception here last year and absolutely loved it. Awesome food and we got to drive up in a golf buggy.
